Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay's brilliant response to US Capitol rioter comparison

Jamiroquai frontman Jay Kay has responded after being compared to a protester who stormed the US Capitol building wearing horns and a fur.

Twitter was flooded with comments by fans who compared him to a member of the mob who forced their way inside the building.

The protestors had been encouraged to gather outside the complex as part of the “March to Save America” rally organised by Donald Trump.

Jay Kay, who is known for wearing zany hats, hit back at the claims in a Twitter clip where he spoke in an American accent.

The singer, 51, said: “Good morning world. Now some of you may be thinking you saw me in Washington last night but I’m afraid I wasn’t with all those freaks.”

The singer also quipped in the caption that he wasn’t the man in the snaps.

He wrote: “Good Morning Washington, loving the headgear, but not sure that’s my crowd. Stay safe everyone.”

As chaos raged in the Capitol building, photographers captured images of the shirtless rioter who had his face painted in red, white and blue.

Twitter users rushed to the comment section to joke the man was actually Jay Kay.

One shared a side-by-side photo of the pair and wrote: “Poor Jamiroquai! What’s happened, man?”

As his supporters stormed the Capitol, forcing politicians, staffers and journalists to shelter in place as a lockdown was declared, Trump refused to condemn the violence.

Instead, he uploaded a video of himself in which he reiterated his claim of a stolen election and told the rioters “we love you, you’re very special”.

The horned protester was revealed to be Jake Angeli, 32, from Arizona in the US.

Jake regularly turns up to Trump rallies in costume and bearing a sign reading “Q sent me”.

He was pictured just steps away from the Senate chamber, clutching a spear with a US flag attached.
