Jesy Nelson accused of releasing similar music to Little Mix ahead of solo debut

Jesy Nelson has been concentrating on her own career since leaving Little Mix in December 2020, but recently she is said to be at risk of sparking tension between her and her ex-bandmates over her new sound.

The singer is now gearing up to release her new debut single but has been hit with claims that her new solo material sounds “very similar” to the band’s music.

The 30-year-old songstress left Little Mix for the sake of her mental health and now reportedly goes through lawyers to speak with her former besties.

A source told The Sun: “Things have got progressively more strained, but seeing her return with a song and an image that could have been taken straight from the Little Mix playbook is going to be very divisive.

“The girls always vowed to stay friends after all they had been through, but now most of their communication happens through intermediaries including lawyers and managers, which is a real shame.

“Jesy’s new video shoot could have been a Little Mix single, it’s packed with choreography and the style is very similar too.’

The insider added that the remaining bandmates may wonder why she left to simply return just eight months later with a similar look and sound.

On Thursday, Jesy gave fans a glimpse of what’s in store and shared a teaser clip, in which the singer told her followers to prepare themselves for her “new chapter”.

In the video, she could also be heard saying she has now “made the music I always wanted to make”.

The post showed behind-the-scenes footage from the past months, including photoshoots, videos of her in the studio and dance rehearsals.

She added: “For me, this is the music I’ve always wanted to make.

“I don’t think anyone is going to expect it, this is a new chapter for me.

“If you genuinely believe something enough to happen, you can make it happen, you have to manifest it.”

After leaving the band, Jesy admitted the pressure she felt to look her best in their music videos really took its toll on her.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan about the Sweet Melody video, she said: ‘The last music video we did was the breaking point.

“Whenever we had a music video, I put an enormous amount of pressure on myself to try to lose weight. I have a fear of looking back on the camera.

“If I don’t like what I see, I find it so hard to be in front of the camera and feel amazing and perform.”
