Jesy Nelson's sister blasts 'bullies' as she weighs in on blackfishing row

Jesy Nelson’s sister Jade has spoken out in support of her younger sister amid the singer’s blackfishing scandal.

Jade Nelson broke her silence as she took to Instagram with a powerful post blasting “bullies”, referring to critics who were slamming her sister.

It comes after Jesy has been involved in a fiery blackfishing row with her former Little Mix bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

Jesy was accused of blackfishing in the music video for her debut single, Boyz, but tensions flew between the ex-bandmates when ‘leaked’ messages showed Leigh-Anne claiming Jesy was blackfishing.

The term ‘blackfishing’ was coined by Wanna Thompson in 2018, who defined it as: “when White public figures, influencers and the like do everything in their power to appear Black”.

Jade’s post, which may have been aimed at Leigh-Anne, read: “When bullies deliberately, and under-handedly set out to hurt someone they never expect to get caught,

“That’s why they try to get other people to do it for them.

“However, when they are exposed for and the victim simply stands up for themselves the bully quickly tries to turn the tables to make the victim take the blame.

“That’s what bullies do.”

Throwing her support behind her sister, she went on to explain that Jesy was “targeted and bullied” throughout her career.

She said: “I was taught never to be intimidated by bullies, but to stand up for myself when I have been wronged.

“Is this really what you want to do? Please all of you, media and everyone, just stop, because you know her heart, her authenticity, her complete accepting and uncritical nature, I know you do.”

Jesy’s debut solo single, Boyz, peaked at Number 4 in the UK charts during its first week.

The single and its music video features US pop star Nicki Minaj, and it features rapper Diddy’s track Bad Boys For Life.

Responding to the backlash, Jesy insisted she hadn’t meant to offend anybody and simply wanted to “celebrate” music from Black culture “because it is what I love”.

Daily Star has approached Leigh-Anne Pinnock for comment.
