Lorraine says Prince George should have been able to wear football kit to Euros

Lorraine Kelly has offered her verdict on Prince William and Kate Middleton’s decision to dress Prince George in a smart suit and tie to the UEFA Euro 2020 final.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge took their eldest son to Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening to watch the game between England and Italy.

It was an important event for the royals, who attended previous games in the tournament., but it was Italy who ended up lifting the trophy.

George, seven, wore a suit and tie to the match, as he had before, although some fans were not keen on the ensemble, suggesting a football shirt would have been more appropriate.

Speaking on her ITV talk show on Monday morning, Lorraine said: “One of the sights that I thought was so hilarious was little Prince George.

“He was so excited and at the end he was so gutted. The wee soul.

“Do you know what he was like a wee cut-down man. They had him in a suit and tie. God love him. They should have let him wear a wee football strip. For goodness sake.”

It appears that some fans agreed with Lorraine and suggested that George should have been allowed to wear a football jersey to the game.

One fan wrote on Twitter last night: “Who dresses a child like that for a football match?”

Another added: “Prince George should have been allowed to wear an England shirt rather than a mini adult jacket and tie!”.

England scored their first and only goal during the nail-bitting game within the first two and a half minutes.

Luke Shaw’s goal sent waves of joy across the UK with plenty of roars up and down the county.

The royals celebrated too, with William, 39, jumping to his feet and pumping his fists in the air.

Young George celebrated by cheering before jumping into his mother’s arms.

The prince’s sweet reaction to the opening goal stole the show, and fans rushed to social media to discuss the sweet moment.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “I can’t, this is the cutest, I’m melting.”

Another said: “Look at Prince George hugging his mummy the Duchess of Cambridge as England scores!”

“She makes me smile. Prince George makes me giggle cause he closed his eyes. He’s really happy,” a third viewer wrote.

While a fourth fan penned: “Prince George was so sweet and very excited.”

Kate wore patriotic white and red for the sporting event.

She dressed fairly casually in a white blazer over a t-shirt and wore black jeans with a belt and bright red, large earrings.

It was a busy day for the mother of three. She had a quick outfit change between the finals of Wimbledon and Euro 2020.
