Louise Redknapp admits she felt 'judged' over her divorce from ex-husband Jamie

Louise Redknapp confessed she was “shocked” by the judgement she received after announcing the end of her marriage nearly four years ago.

The Stretch singer, 46, separated from her ex-husband Jamie Redknapp in 2017, after nearly two decades of marriage.

Louise and Jamie had been a golden couple in the Brit showbiz industry, and their split came as a shock to many, with the pair continuing to co-parent their two sons.

Unfortunately, the attention Louise received after their divorce was hard to handle, as she recalled feeling “judged” by many.

During an appearance on Thursday’s The One Show, the mum-of-two opened up about the aftermath of their break-up, remembering it as a “scary time”.

“I think I was really shocked by the amount of judgement really, I couldn’t quite understand why I was being judged,” she said.

“I’ve been in this industry a long time and I don’t expect my life to not be reported on, it was just a scary time.

“I was going through a hard time and I think what I did learn is you do have to get broad shoulders in life sometimes. Surround yourself by good people, keep your chin up and just keep on going.”

Louise’s new autobiography, You’ve Got This: And Other Things I Wish I Had Known, which was published on March 4, outlines this experience.

She added: “The message I try and give in the book is we’re not all perfect and no one really knows anybody’s life unless you’re walking in their shoes.”

Speaking to co-hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating, Louise admitted her two sons, Beau, 12, and Charley, 16, helped her through the trying time.

She said: “My boys were my absolute saviour, and my mum. I tried to put it in a book in a way that no matter what you’re going through in life whether it’s a career change, a relationship, anything.

“This book can apply to any different walk of life, it’s not about divorce, it goes right the way through my life.”

Since separating from Jamie, Louise has enjoyed a career revival, returning to performing with the same flair that made her famous as a member of Eternal in the 90s.

On top of joining the cast of 9 to 5 The Musical in the West End, Louise released an album, Heavy Love, at the beginning of 2020.

Her new book is her latest creative endeavour, aiming to appeal “to anyone who has ever wondered if they’re getting it right in life”.

The One Show airs on weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
