Love Island's Shaughna Phillips reveals banned word in villa to stop homesickness

Love Island star Shaughna Phillips has revealed that her and her fellow cast had a special rule on the dating show to stop them tearing up in front of the cameras.

Stunning Shaughna, 25, shot to fame on the winter series of Love Island in 2020 alongside other famous faces like series winner Paige Turley, Demi Jones, Luke Mabbott.

Taking to Twitter, Shaughna opened up about how homesick she felt as a contestant on the ITV2 show as she was watching this year’s 2021 contestants reunite with their family members on screen.

On Sunday’s episode, the Islanders were surprised by their family members who turned up at the villa in secret before Millie Court got a bombshell text letting her know that her mum and sister were at the door.

In emotional scenes, the four remaining couples – Liam and Millie, Kaz and Tyler, Faye and Teddy, and Chloe and Toby – were greeted with their mums, dads, friends and siblings.

Many of them – such as Chloe, Toby and Tyler, broke down in tears at the sight of their loved ones – who were all quick to tell their sons and daughters how proud of them they were.

Shaughna opened up to her followers during the episode, admitting that she always “struggles to watch” the family episode because she knows how bad the homesickness is as an ex-Islander.

She wrote: “I always struggle to watch the family episode of Love Island because I’m just an emotional b**ch, but knowing now just how bad the homesickness is, I don’t think I’ll cope past the opening credits.”

She then went on to speak about her own struggles with homesickness whilst on the show – saying that it was “horrendous”.

Apparently, they even had a rule to help them deal with being away from their family.

She continued: “The homesickness is horrendous. We had a rule that no one was allowed to say the M word (mum) otherwise it was game over.”

Shaughna entered the villa on day one and lasted until Week 5 before she was dumped, after she failed to couple up with any of the singletons.

The beauty had been coupled up with Callum Jones until he decided to re-couple with Molly Smith in Week 4, leaving Shaughna single.

The grand final of Love Island 2021 airs tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVHub.
