Mark Wright says he's 'absolutely broken' as uncle dies after Covid diagnosis

Mark Wright’s uncle Edward George Wright has tragically died at the age of 66, leaving the former TOWIE star “absolutely broken”.

Edward contracted Covid earlier this year, battling the virus for eight weeks before passing away “peacefully” on Tuesday.

Mark, 34, promised to care for his aunt Debbie and his cousins as the Wright family mourns the devastating loss.

In a tribute posted over Instagram, Mark thanked Eddie for everything he had taught him, sharing photos of his uncle playing golf and competing in charity races.

Expressing his grief, Mark wrote: “I am soooooo PROUD to call you my uncle and I will until the end of day.

“I/we are absolutely broken, but together because we are the family we are…. we will get through, somehow some day.”

The presenter, who is married to actress Michelle Keegan, added that Eddie showed him how to treat his wife “with respect”, as well as how to “work hard” in life.

Vowing to continue to make Eddie proud, he wrote: “I have often thought over the last 24 hours that part of me wishes we wasn’t so close, so that we didn’t love as much as a family as maybe it wouldn’t hurt as much.

“I will no longer think this way and instead I be grateful for the memories we have and when the dust settles, look back and smile.

“Unc, rest in peace. I love you sooo much, more than I ever told you and that’s saying something.”

Below, Mark’s celebrity friends and fans sent their respects to the family, heartbroken by the news.

Eddie was reportedly in a “critical condition” during his Covid battle, but woke up from a seven-week coma in February.

Mark’s cousin Elliott initially broke the news of his father’s death, revealing Eddie’s family had been by his side in his final hours.

He wrote: “For those who knew my father, you know what a great man he was, always smiling, always humble, always happy, despite the fact in his later years he bravely fought prostate cancer, he never moaned and done his best to put a brave smile on.”

Admitting he was “broken to pieces,” Mark was one of the first to share his condolences with Elliott beneath the announcement.

Reaching out to his cousin, he said: “You’d have to be God to find a better man than my uncle. Put simply, you won’t.

“I love you uncle Eddie, I’m never going to forget you. Broken to pieces.”
