Megan Barton Hanson would 'definitely' return to Love Island for gay season

Megan Barton Hanson shot to fame on Love Island back in 2018 where she placed fourth with partner Wes Nelson.

Now she has revealed that she would return to the hit show on the one condition that it would be for a gay season.

Addressing the Cambridge Union, the 27-year-old added that there was more work to be done to show proper bisexual representation on TV shows, without only examples of tokenism.

She explained: “I think it would have been a completely different experience for me if there’d have been gay people on the show. It didn’t even enter my head, I just assumed that every girl on there was completely straight.

“Logistically I don’t know how it’d work if they just chucked in a few token gay people in there. I think we need a whole gay series.

“If you’re going to do it, do it properly! I’d definitely go back on there if there’s a gay season!”

She continued: “I’m so passionate about this! I feel like producers now will pick one bisexual girl who’ll be chucked on the show. She’ll get with a girl for a minute and then get with a guy and then that’s it, done.

“I feel like that’s definitely not good enough, we need a whole gay season.

“Because it just wouldn’t work, chucking in a few gay guys, gay girls into a straight show, it’s not gonna work. They need to completely do a whole gay season, I mean I’d definitely watch that!”

Megan went further, explaining that the visibility of bisexual people on reality shows needed to be expanded upon.

“I feel like it’s not enough, whether it’s Celebs Go Dating or Love Island or any of those shows, I feel like they just do the bare minimum.

“They chuck in one bisexual girl who ultimately will probably get with a guy. I don’t think that’s good enough. So yeah, we definitely need to see more.

“I feel like Netflix is doing the most, they are actually really good, like every series I watch, there is a gay storyline which is great. But we need to see it from UK reality TV, definitely.”
