Mum who suffered IVF ordeal horrified after seeing animal carcass in filthy home

An overwhelmed couple were left horrified when professional cleaners discovered a decaying animal carcass in their living room.

Sarah and Stewart, their three children and three cats have been living in a huge five-bedroom family home on the outskirts of York for five years.

The house looks incredible from the outside but the space inside is filled with junk and unused items, rodent droppings and even an animal carcass.

They turned to cleaning professionals Richard and Brennan for help in bid to return their home to its glory.

Appearing on Channel 5’s Filthy House SOS, healthcare professional Sarah opened up on her ordeal about getting IVF treatment.

She explained how they struggled to have children after several rounds of IVF and the emotional and physical toll that caused saw Sarah turn to comfort buying as a means of escape.

When husband Stewart took cleaning expert Brennan to the living room for a detailed look, they came across a very grim discovery hidden under a wooden shelf.

A clip from the show shows Stewart gasping in disgust: “Argh! Brennan I think I’ve got something for you.”

The expert flips open a paper box to reveal an animal carcass in the middle of a pile of grey feathers or fur.

He asks Stewart: “Presume that’s what the cat brought back in? This is not good, the fact there is an dead animal in the living room, which is the family room.”

Raising the issue to Sarah, Brennan believes the carcass looks to be either a mouse or a bird.

She takes a quick look before commenting: “Oh lovely.”

Her husband turns to her and says: “Definitely a wake-up call for me to go ‘yeah, actually we need to…'”

Meanwhile, Sarah adds: “We were half expecting that we might have an unwelcome gift from the cats that we’d found during this process.

“But onwards and upwards.”

Brennan says: “I think, if anybody was to find that in their home, they would realise things need to change.”

The experts ended up spending three days transforming the family home into a “swanky, posh house”.

Sarah thanked them for their work and added: “This is million miles away from where we were before and this is beautiful.

“There’s no way it’s going back to how it was.”
