Netflix renews Bridgerton for series 3 and 4 after Regé-Jean Page's departure

Good news for Bridgerton fans as it will be returning beyond the upcoming second season.

The quirky period drama surpassed The Witcher over the summer, making it Netflix’s most-watched show to date.

And building on that success, the streaming giant has confirmed that it will be continuing for at least another two years after season two.

“BREAKING NEWS FROM THE TON,” Netflix tweeted today, “Bridgerton is returning for seasons three *AND* four!”

This comes after fans were left gutted at the news that Regé-Jean Page, one of the first series’ biggest break-out stars, would not be reprising his role as the Duke of Hastings.

Netflix announced his departure in character as Lady Whistledown, who narrates the series and was revealed to be Penelope Featherington.

“Dearest Readers, While all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscountess, we bid adieu to Regé-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings.

“We’ll miss Simon’s presence onscreen, but he will always be a part of the Bridgerton family.

Netflix announced the renewal of its biggest show

“Daphne will remain a devoted wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the upcoming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers may be able to bear.

“Yours truly, Lady Whistledown.”

Regé addressed his departure as well, writing to followers: “It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege to be your Duke. Joining this family – not just on screen, but off screen too.

“Our incredibly creative and generous cast, crew, outstanding fans – it’s all been beyond anything I could have imagined. The love is real and will just keep growing.”

Meanwhile, the star is rumoured for the role of James Bond once Daniel Craig leaves the role.

He’s set to step back from the franchise after the much-delayed No Time To Die, with his potential replacement a hot topic and subject to frequent rumours.

Regé is one of the latest names to be floated for the super sleuth, joining the likes of Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and James Norton.
