Piers Morgan fuming as 'spineless' Hasbro makes Mr Potato Head gender neutral

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan has taken to Instagram to let rip at the makers of Mr Potato Head after it was announced the iconic toy would be going gender neutral in the near future.

Hasbro, who make the plastic toy, seemingly hoped the move would allow them to be more inclusive.

However, Piers was far from impressed taking to social media to brand the company “spineless” for the uber PC move.

The 55-year-old ranted to his army of followers: “FFS.

“Imagine doing this in the middle of a global pandemic because you’re terrified of offending a few wokies… So spineless and depressing.”

His post quickly picked up over 53,000 likes.

Within minutes of the shock move being announced, Twitter was flooded with debate with many people accusing Hasbro of trying to fix an issue that simply isn’t there.

Others praised the move amid mounting fury.

In an official statement posted to their website, Hasbro said: “Hasbro is making sure all feel welcome in the Potato Head world by officially dropping the Mr from the Mr Potato Head brand name and logo to promote gender equality and inclusion.

“In the fall, the new Potato Family Pack “Create Your Potato Head Family” will celebrate the many faces of families allowing kids to imagine and create their own Potato Head family.

“The name change will come with a fresh branding look with a whimsical colour palette and more inclusive messaging along with new product to appeal to the modern consumer.

“The possibilities to create your own families are endless with mixing and mashing all the parts and pieces.”

Hasbro’s Senior Vice President Kimberley Boyd later added why she thought the move was needed in 2021.

She told Fast Company: “Culture has evolved.

“Kids want to be able to represent their own experiences.

“The way the brand currently exists – with the Mr and Mrs – is limiting when it comes to both gender identity and family structure.”

However, hours later the under fire company appeared to backtrack on their decision… at least in part.

Taking to Twitter, the group shared an image of the new boxes for the iconic toy.

While the mane name simply reads “Potato Head” there is still a Mr and Mrs version.

Their post read: “Hold that Tot – your main spud, Mr Potato Head isn’t going anywhere! While it was announced today that the Potato Head brand name and logo are dropping the Mr.

“I yam proud to confirm that Mr and Mrs Potato Head aren’t going anywhere and will remain Mr and Mrs Potato Head.”
