Piers Morgan taunts Holly Willoughby as he sends her 40th birthday wishes

Piers Morgan cheekily mocked Holly Willoughby while paying her a birthday tribute on Good Morning Britain.

Morgan gave the This Morning presenter a birthday shout-out as he said: “I want to wish a happy 40th to Holly Willoughby. She’ll be so glad I mentioned it.”

Susanna remarked: “Finally! They’re in our sort of age band, though I’ve sort of tipped over into the 50s.”

Piers replied jokingly: “Yeah, and you got a load of sycophantic guff in The Sun but nothing quite like this! ‘She’s sexy but unobtainable. She’s happy and professional. Women love her, men love her and brands love her. It all works!'”

He added while laughing: “Happy 40th, Holls! She’s a great laugh, I’ve got to say. Amid all my constant taunting – I think my constant taunting has been mitigated by the fact that there are no awards ceremonies at the moment.

“So I’ve got to put up with her and Phil Schofield standing there talking about, ‘We’re all a big happy ITV family!’ Yeah, we are when you lot win everything – you are, we’re not. We’re not a happy ITV family.”

Piers added: “When I see you and Ant and Dec trotting up to get your 150th award and we get snubbed again. We’re not a happy ITV family.”

Susanna said: “Can’t you loan them out?”

“We’re a very dysfunctional, hateful family at this end of the operation,” Piers joked.

Media personality Holly Willoughby has become a national treasure and has an army of devoted fans.

She began her career when she was just 14 in 1995 when she was spotted by a talent scout at a clothes show and was signed up to be a model.

Holly went on from 1998, at the age of 17, to become a lingerie model for clients including Pretty Polly, appearing in advertisements and posters.

This then led Holly to a lengthy career on British TV presenting the most popular shows including The Xtra Factor, The Voice UK, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and Celebrity Juice.

Holly is currently best-known for hosting This Morning during the week and Dancing On Ice on a Sunday evening alongside her co-star and good friend Phillip Schofield.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
