Rapper DMX remains on life support and will 'undergo brain function tests'

US rapper DMX will undergo brain function tests while he remains on life support in hospital following a heart attack, it’s reported.

The tests will hopefully help to determine the level of functionality in 50-year-old rapper’s brain.

Real name Earl Simmons he went into cardiac arrest last week and is being looked after at White Plains Hospital, north of New York City, according to his lawyer.

There has been speculation that the heart attack was a result of a drug overdose but lawyer Murray Richman was unable to confirm rumours and said he did not know the reason behind the emergency treatment.

In a positive sign DMX was reportedly breathing on his own but his former manager Nakia Walker has since said he is in a “vegetative state”, with “lung and brain failure.”

Now People reports that the musician was scheduled for tests on Wednesday during which doctors will determine how much brain function and activity he has.

Steve Rifkind, DMX’s manager, told the publication: “We are just waiting on the doctors to tell us what the next steps are.”

His family shared a statement via People earlier this week, reading: “On Friday night … our brother, son, father, and colleague DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, was admitted to White Plains hospital, facing serious health issues.

“We ask that you please keep Earl/DMX and us in your thoughts, wishes, and prayers as well as respect our privacy as we face these challenges.”

Due to Covid restrictions, the vigil was planned for Monday evening outside the hospital where DMX is being treated.

Celebrity pals, as well as fans, have been pouring their hearts out for the star.

Missy Elliott asked for “prayers for DMX and his family”, while Gabrielle Union, Viola David and Ja Rule are among the other names sending kind words the way of DMX’s loved ones.
