Rapper Drakeo the Ruler dies aged 28 after being 'stabbed in neck' at LA festival

Drakeo the Ruler has passed away at the age of 28 after being stabbed in the neck at a music festival in Los Angeles, California, reports have said.

The American rapper, whose real name is Darrell Caldwell, tragically died after suffering injuries to the neck after the fatal attack.

The festival, called Once Upon A Time in LA, has now been cancelled after the horror incident.

Huge names in the music industry, such as Ice Cube, 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg were set to perform at the festival.

It comes as a representative for Drakeo the Ruler confirmed the news of the musician’s death to media outlets such as the Guardian and Pitchfork.

According to TMZ, Drakeo had been stabbed during an altercation that broke out backstage at the festival – where he had also been due to perform.

A source revealed to the LA Times that the rapper had been attacked in the festival grounds by a group of people on Saturday evening (December 18).

The songwriter was then rushed to hospital in a critical state before dying from his injuries.

The festival has since issued a statement on social media following the reported event.

The festival wrote: “The Once Upon A Time in LA Fest is ending early. All performances are now over.

“Please head to the closet exit and head eastbound on MLK.”

Drakeo shot to fame after his 2015 track Mr. Get Dough was picked up by DJ Mustard – who went on to remix the single later that year.

He then released a series of records, starting with I Am Mr. Mosely 0 which also came in 2015.

His other mixtapes included Free Drakeo, Cold Devil and Thank You For Using GTL.

The musician also teamed up with Drake on their track Talk to Me, as well as Earl Sweathshirt.

He reportedly recorded the latter whilst in jail (he was later acquitted of murder charges in 2019).
