Richard Madeley shuts down Susanna Reid telling her to 'shush' as GMB turns awkward

Good Morning Britain turned awkward when stand-in presenter Richard Madeley told his co-star Susanna Reid to “shhh”.

The 65-year-old veteran TV star and regular host Susanna, 50, were joined by doctor Hilary Jones and Rustie Lee who had joined via video link to discuss hugging.

Dr Hilary, 68 and Rustie, 72, clashed over whether it was now safe to embrace friends and loved ones.

The TV medical expert was adamant that people should not be hugging just yet with his advice being clear that “we are still in a pandemic”.

While Rustie shared a different view on the matter and was happy to hug those she felt close to if they had been vaccinated and were being careful.

After the disagreement broke out on-air, Richard interjected: “I tell you what lets put a date in the diary for a hug in the New Year.

Rustie said: “I’ll sanitise my hands and I’ve got my jab so you’re safe.”

Richard added: “And I’ll bring my mouthwash as apparently that’s important as well.”

Susanna joked: “No he’s not inviting you for a snog.”

Looking shifty, he responded: “Shhh,” before turning to doctor Hilary to ask: “They act as protectors don’t they?”

“So they say,” responded Dr Hilary.

On Monday’s episode Susanna seemed unimpressed with Richard’s ghost story

On Monday’s programme the two presenters also seemed to share differing views when it came to the supernatural.

Richard confessed that he had once seen a ghost on a trip Euro Disney and his co-star appeared to be sceptical about the ghostly sighting.

Discussing Andi Peters’ holiday prize this week, Richard added: “I’ve got to say that is a brilliant prize but I always get a shiver down neck when somebody talks about Euro Disney.”

Susanna remarked: “Oh here we go.”

Richard claimed he’s seen a ghost on a trip to Euro Disney in France

He carried on: “Because I saw a ghost. I saw a ghost on a visit to Euro Disney.

“I definitely saw something, it’s too a long a story to tell here and now but it was very strange.”

Later on in the programme Richard went into detail about the frightening sighting.

Still unconvinced by his story, Susanna said: “Can I just point out it had nothing to do with Disney Land Paris. It was just a hotel in Paris.

“That’s like saying you Buckingham Palace is haunted because you stayed in a hotel in London.”

She added: “Kids it’s not Disney Land, it’s just a hotel.”

“Listen, you asked for the story,” fumed Richard.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am.
