Sarah Jayne Dunn admits joining OnlyFans was 'difficult' process after Hollyoaks axe

Former Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn, who is best known for playing Mandy Richardson in the Channel 4 soap, has admitted joining adult site OnlyFans was ‘difficult’.

The actress was axed from the soap over her decision to upload racy pics to the 18+ site, despite wanting to remain on Hollyoaks ‘for life’.

Now she reportedly makes more than £7,000 a week on the sexy site, after admitting she “really struggled” on her Hollyoaks wage.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain to discuss her decision to “empower” herself by owning her own content on the site, Sarah Jayne was joined by commentator Dominique Samuels, who argues the site is damaging to young women.

Dominique kicked off the discussion as she said: “Factually, according to an investigation by the BBC, a lot of teenagers as young as 14 are bypassing the site’s rules and signing up. This is a real problem.”

As host Ben Shephard replied: “Let’s put that to Sarah Jayne,” the actress admitted that signing up for OnlyFans hadn’t been the easiest process.

She explained: “So to get on the actual site itself, you have to be over 18. It’s a really difficult process, actually – I even struggled myself to get on there with passport, with ID, with photo recognition.

“It’s a big process. You can’t just jump on. So I don’t understand where that about under 18s has come from!”

Dominique explained that the average OnlyFans user only makes £130 per month from the site, adding: “So what does that say to young girls? It means they’ll be doing more and more extreme sexual things to earn the money and to sort of emulate the celebrities they see online.

“I’m not saying that this is their responsibility necessarily, but I’m saying we need to be honest about this.”

Sarah Jayne, meanwhile, argued her own point as she said: “This isn’t about going, ‘Everyone should do OnlyFans’.

“This is about taking control of your own images, of your own choices and of what you want to do with your body.”

She added that it wasn’t her decision to walk away from Hollyoaks, as Ben asked: “I imagine it’s been a bit of a wrench for you to have to leave Hollyoaks because of your commitment to your subscription site.

“What made you decide that actually you wanted to stay with the OnlyFans site and walk away from Hollyoaks?”

Sarah Jayne then responded: “Well, that wasn’t really the decision that I made. The idea was to launch OnlyFans and take back some power and control over my images, what I create, where I put them.

“I was going to run that alongside my job as well, and that’s not a decision that I made, but this is where we are and I’m looking at the future [and] really enjoying being in control of everything.”

She added: “It’s really empowering.”

Sarah Jayne was axed from the soap after her OnlyFans account came to light, with a spokesperson for Hollyoaks telling Metro: “Hollyoaks is a youth-facing drama with many young viewers, who follow our cast very closely, both in the soap and outside of it.

“We take our responsibility to our young audience very seriously and therefore the show does not allow any Hollyoaks cast members to be active on certain 18+ websites.”

Good Morning Britain airs from 6am weekdays on ITV.
