Shaun Wallace fears The Chase will be axed by ITV boss despite record ratings

Stars of hit quiz show The Chase fear it will be axed by ITV.

They reckon its future would be at risk if a new boss took over at the channel.

Show quizzer Shaun Wallace, who is known at The Dark Destroyer, said: “With everybody, including our host Bradley Walsh, the one thing we never do is take the show for granted.

“It only takes the wrong ITV executive to say, ‘Look, it’s run its course and it’s gone.

“That is what keeps the show fresh. We don’t take things for granted.”

Shaun admitted it would only take one ITV executive to cancel The Chase

Shaun, 60, reckons good morale behind the scenes is vital for the show to be a success.

He added: “With everybody from the person who gets the coffee right up to Bradley, we treat each other as one happy family. That is what comes across on the show.

“Everybody respects each other. I am no better than the person who gets me a cup of coffee.”

The Chase has become a big hit with viewers since launching in 2009.

Shaun has also admitted he is eyeing a job on rival quiz Mastermind.

He wants to replace John Humphrys as host when he quits in the coming months.

Revealing it would be a dream job, he said: “If I got to be the host of Mastermind, it would be a tremendous honour. It would go to show that television looks at diverse talent irrespective of your skin colour, gender or sexuality.
