Sixth Sense cast now – unrecognisable transformation, divorce and hospital dash

Every so often a film comes along that becomes a cult classic with some iconic lines, and even 22 years on it’s still a fan favourite.

Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, the film proved to be his breakthrough movie, packed full of unexpected twists and turns.

It received an impressive (and appropriate) six Oscar nominations, and raked in $672million at the box office, worldwide.

The Sixth Sense features child psychologist Malcolm Crowe as he tries to help a child who claims he can speak with the dead.

It starred Bruce Willis and Toni Collette, and catapulted young Haley Joel Osment to stardom and instant fame,

Some 22 years on, here’s what some of the cast have been up to since the scary smash hit.

Haley Joel Osment

Haley first appeared in Forrest Gump, playing his young son (also called Forrest Gump).

He was only ten-years-old when he landed his breakthrough role, playing unwilling medium Cole Seer, who could infamously see the dead.

The role earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, but he lost out to Michael Caine (who he later starred with in another film.)

Upon losing, Caine said in his speech: “Haley, when I saw you I thought: well, that’s me out of it.”

Haley responded later “That was probably a better outcome than me winning.”

He went on to star in Steven Spielberg’s ‘A.I. Artificial Intelligence’, ‘Pay It Forward’, and ‘Secondhand Lions’.

Haley also played Davis Cable in ‘Last Stand at Saber River’.

He had a few short-lived stints on Broadway, and has been doing voice acting roles for computer games, including that of Sora in Kingdom Hearts since 2002, and Vanitas since 2010.

Disney also came knocking, and he voiced several roles there, too.

The star also appeared in comedies like Sex Ed and The Spoils of Babylon, and in 2019 he appeared alongside Lily Collins and Zac Efron in the Ted Bundy film, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.

He says he tried to escape the public eye by growing a beard “to try and hide in public. That didn’t really work at all”.

However, nowadays he is proud of his role and success, and says “I feel like I’m always building on it.”

Bruce Willis

The Sixth Sense was a bumper pay day for Bruce, who earned a reported $14million up front for starring, plus a large percentage of earnings. It’s thought in total he earned around $100million from the role of Malcolm Crowe.

He told the director at the time that he was convinced of the film’s success, and that he had felt the same way in making Pulp Fiction.

Willis was already a star, having become a household name thanks to his roles in Die Hard, The Fifth Element, and the aforementioned Tarantino hit.

He later worked with Shyamalan again for ‘Unbreakable’, in the role of superhuman David Dunn.

Willis revelled in action roles, appearing in ‘Sin City’, ‘The Expendables’ and ‘Death Wish’.

He then reprised his role as Dunn for the final installment of Shyamalan’s series, ‘Glass’.

Bruce split up with Demi Moore not long after The Sixth Sense’s release.

He married Emma Heming Willis in 2009.

In 2006, she won many nominations for playing another role as a mother, in ‘Little Miss Sunshine’.

It received nods from the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs and more.

Not long after, she scored the starring role in ‘United States of Tara’, as a suburban housewife dealing with a dissociative identity disorder.

She won more accolades for her part in horror film ‘Hereditary’, and stole the show in ‘Knives Out’

He was only in the film at the very start, but Donnie’s role as Vincent Gray who wanted vengeance against Bruce’s Malcolm Crowe, went a long way to making the film the smash hit it is.

Donnie previously found fame in New Kids on the Block member and is the older brother to Mark Wahlberg.

He went on to star in a number of ‘Saw’ movies, from the second to the fourth installment.

Donnie also moved into directing and producing, working on TV series ‘Blue Bloods’ and the documentary series ‘Very Scary People’.
