Skins star Kathryn Prescott 'out of danger' after being hit by cement truck in New York

Skins actress Kathryn Prescott is no longer in a life-threatening condition after she was hit by a cement truck in Brooklyn, her family has confirmed.

The 30-year-old TV star, who played Emily Fitch in the teen drama series, was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after the accident on Tuesday.

She broke both her legs, foot, two breaks in her pelvis and her left hand in the accident, her distraught sister twin sister Megan has revealed.

Mum Theresa has since provided a further update on Kathryn’s condition.

She said: “It’s absolutely awful. Thankfully she’s off life-threatening status.”

Megan broke the news to Twitter, saying her sister was “lucky to be alive” after the horror accident on September 7.

She penned at the time: “I received the most terrifying phone call I’ve ever received in my life on Tuesday evening.

“My twin sister Kathryn was hit by a cement truck while crossing a road in New York on the 7th September.

“After fighting through complex surgery some of Kathryn’s injuries include: broken pelvis in two places, both of her legs, her foot and her left hand,” Megan wrote, adding that her twin “narrowly avoided paralysis”.

“The doctors are hopeful that she will make a full recovery but this will only be possible with the correct care right now.”

Megan then made a desperate plea for help getting to the US to be with her twin.

“She is alone in New York with no family members. I need help getting to New York to support her recovery. I will have to help her until she can start to walk again,” Megan wrote.

Her efforts to visit Kathryn are being impeded by the on going Covid pandemic, which means non-US citizens are unable to fly directly into the country.

She asked her followers on Twitter and Instagram for help so she could get to her sister and aid in her recovery.

“I need to be there to help her with literally everything as she will be able to do incredibly little by herself.

“She will be in rehab for a very long time and will need 24/hr care even after she leaves the hospital.”

Megan applied to the US Embassy for exemption from the current restrictions and was denied.

“I am devastated. I am double vaccinated, I had a PCR test yesterday and can fly at the drop of a hat.

“I have documents from the hospital confirming the extent of Kathryn’s injuries and am willing to do anything to get to her as soon as humanly possible,” she continued.

Megan pleaded with her followers to share her post and to help her find a way to appeal the US Embassy’s decision.
