Spice Girls 'to reunite to film sequel to Spice World' 24 years later

Spice Girls are reportedly set to reunite to film a spectacular sequel to their 90s flick Spice World.

Geri Horner is leading the project, according to The Sun, bringing the band back together 24 years after the film hit the cinemas.

A film industry source told the publication: “The girls have been talking about how to mark the film’s anniversary and are actively considering making a tongue-in-cheek sequel.

“They have approached a screenwriter who is considering working on the project and making tentative steps forward.

“It is still in the early stages but they are talking to established names in the business, which proves they are taking a big screen comeback seriously.”

Daily Star has approached Geri’s publicist for comment.

According to reports, the group have approached a renowned screenwriter for the project ahead of the film’s 25th anniversary next year.

Melanie C, Emma Bunton and Mel B are reportedly all on board to take part in the sequel.

However, a reluctant Victoria Beckham may not be so keen on taking part in the film, according to reports, but the girls hope they can tempt her to join in on the fun.

Business mogul Victoria has been adamant that she wants to focus on her fashion brand and her family rather than return as a member of the group.

The mother of four previously said: “It took me a lot of courage not to go on tour with the Spice Girls again, but to be the one who says, ‘You know, I’m not doing it because things feel different now than they used to’.

“I’d rather concentrate on my family and my company.”

In 2019, Spice Girls reunited as a four without Posh Spice for a 13-date sellout stadium tour which took place across the UK and Ireland. The girls also reunited with their former manager Simon Fuller for the tour but have since parted ways again.

The 1997 film Spice World starred all five band members and also featured well-known celebrities such as Richard E. Grant, Meat Loaf, Sir Elton John and many more.

The film became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time by a musical group as it made more than £70million.

Even though the film received negative reviews, the girls certainly raked in the cash from the flick.

In 2019, Paramount tried their luck with a movie based on the girls. The film was scheduled for a 2020 release but progress is believed to have stalled.

Geri seems to be at the forefront of managing the Spice Girls at the moment and in December Mel C said: “Geri is pretty much managing us right now. The thing is, we’re pretty much unmanageable.”
