Strictly Come Dancing's Adam Peaty admits his 'confidence has been knocked' on show

Adam Peaty admitted his confidence has been knocked after falling into the bottom two on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Olympian appeared on Strictly’s It Takes Two with his dance partner Katya Jones on Tuesday night (November 2).

It comes as Adam found himself in the bottom two alongside Loose Women star Judi Love during Sunday night’s results show (October 31), meaning he had to battle it out against Judi in the dance off.

Adam came out on top and was saved by the judges who preferred his performance.

However, the swimmer told host Rylan Clark that he now has to “find his confidence” again after being made vulnerable to a booting on the hit dancing competition.

Rylan said he could “see it in his face” after Adam fell into the dance off.

Adam Peaty replied: “I’m still carrying a bit of baggage from the weekend. It was tough to go to the dance off because it was so unexpected, I thought you know what, 29, solid.

“But it just shows you like with Rhys last week, no one is safe. I have to find my confidence again now. I do deserve to be here… I think. It’s dancing and I need to breathe.

“We worked so hard on the fundamentals last week, all the fundamentals, the character, the musicality everything. And I thought you know what, I’m loving this so much and it’s unfortunate we ended up in a dance off but you can’t control that.”

Fans were shocked and upset after Adam fell into the bottom two and the supportive messages rolled in on Twitter during Tuesday’s broadcast.

One said: “Adam and Katya should not [have] been in the dance off.

“He did so well at the weekend. I loved the character he embodied in the dance. Katya’s choreography was amazing. His frame was good but could be improved.

“Slow ballroom is difficult. He did really well”.

Another said: “Adam’s confidence has really been knocked by being in the dance off.

“So sad to hear that, especially because he shouldn’t have been in the dance off at all. I’ll have to give them some extra votes this week.”

Another comment read out on air said they would give Adam all three of their votes this week in a bid to keep him safe.

Others previously said: “Actually really surprised by this. Whereas I think Adam could’ve been in the dance off in previous weeks I felt his waltz was technically his best dance yet. Puzzled beyond belief. #Strictly”

Another reacted: “I did not see Adam being in the bottom two at all. This is a shock to me. Everyone was good last night. #Strictly.”

Another added: “Well that’s a shock, wouldn’t have put Adam in the bottom 2”.

Next Saturday will see Adam and Katya perform a jive to the Matilda film soundtrack – and hopefully the Olympian will have recovered his confidence by then.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One at 7.15pm on Saturday, November 6.
