Strictly Giovanni Pernice's ex Maura Higgins stays silent as he wins the series

Love Island star Maura Higgins has so far stayed silent on her ex-boyfriend Giovanni Pernice’s Strictly Come Dancing victory, after he won the 2021 series on Saturday night with EastEnders star Rose Ayling-Ellis.

On the eve of the Strictly final, Maura posted a bikini snap with fellow Love Islander Lucie Donlan as the pair pouted in the Maldives.

Giovanni, 31, and Maura went public with their love shortly after they were spotted enjoying a football match together in June.

They broke up in October and then deleted all trace of each other on their Instagram accounts.

It’s believed that Giovanni ended the relationship in order to give Strictly his full commitment – a decision which now appears to have paid off.

Maura has stayed silent so far

Last month he issued a statement, writing: “Firstly, great relationships with great people can come to a natural end. This has been the case for me recently.

“There was absolutely no wrong-doing and this should be the end of any speculation.

“The show has highlighted many important conversations for different communities and increased representation. These are the conversations which deserve the time, energy and recognition.”

This is Giovanni’s first win after seven years as a Strictly pro

Rose and Giovanni lifted the glitterball trophy after competing against John Whaite and Johannes Radebe in an emotional and tense final.

Meanwhile, Maura posted a quote on her Instagram story about picking yourself up after a difficult time.

The quote read: “Hello to the person reading this. You may be going through a really tough time at the moment, you may not feel worthwhile and think there is no way out of the situation you are and believe things won’t get better.

Maura and Gio split in October

“You are worthwhile, you are special, you are not alone, things will get better.”

Since splitting from Giovanni, Maura has been busy promoting her makeup range as she told fans how she has dealt with the break up.

She wrote on her Instagram Story: “Allow yourself to grieve! Spend time with the people you love & always remind yourself that everything happens for a reason!! The people who are meant to be in your life will be in your life.”
