Strictly's Oti risks fury as she says Masked Dancer job was 'best call of life'

Strictly Come Dancing star Oti Mabuse claims being offered the chance to be a judge on ITV’s The Masked Dancer was “the best, best call” of her life.

Her surprise revelation could upset bosses of the BBC flagship show where she has been a professional dancer since 2015 and won the glitterball twice.

Oti will join fellow judges Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan on the new show on Saturday.

She has told how she jumped at the chance to be on the sister show of The Masked Singer where this time, the panel must try to guess who the masked dancers are.

Oti – who plans to quit Strictly after the 2021 autumn series – said: “When I got the call.. Oh my goodness. I broke out in song and dance.

“I think I sang something from Wicked like Defying Gravity.

“I was in my house and I had a scarf and I was like flying the scarf around like ‘I’ve made it’.

“It was the best best call of my life. I was so grateful to be here on the panel so I appreciate that.”

Despite her trophies and awards, Oti claims she was pretty useless trying to guess who the celebrity dancers were hiding behind their costumes such as Beetroot and Car Wash.

She added: “I had no advantage. Everyone knows Jonathan Ross comes up with really out of character names and now I am the one who is doing it.

“I mentioned someone and the audience all just burst out laughing like ‘That’s so crazy’.

“My suggestions are insane.”

Rossy claims the clues – given to help work out the celebrities’ identities – will drive people wild.

He added: “Families will fall out over this series.”

Masked Dancer is airing for a week-long special from May 29 until June 5 on ITV.
