Susanna Reid 'feared GMB axe if she spoke too kindly of Piers' amid Meghan row

Former Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has said that he believes that Susanna Reid was worried about her job in the aftermath of his abrupt exit from the show.

Whilst Piers admitted he regrets storming off the set during a heated row about Meghan Markle with weatherman Alex Beresford, he also had some strong words.

As Piers said that he was “disappointed” at the way Susanna reacted to his exit during his interview with Tucker Carlson, the host replied: “It seems like you have affection for her.”

Piers replied: “I was disappointed. Susanna, my co-host for five years – who is a good friend of mine.

“I honestly think she was in the grip of fear, I think she was fearful if she went too far in saying nice things about me the same thing might happen to her.

“A huge Twitter pile on, there was no mainstream media interest in what I said, it was all been driven online by a very orchestrated mob.”

Piers was referring to Susanna’s statement on the morning after his exit from GMB was announced, during which she said: “A number of people will, of course, know the news and many of you will not and will be surprised that Piers Morgan is not here this morning.

“Now, Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the things that viewers loved about the programme.

Piers slammed his former co-host for her “frosty” speech

“He is, without a doubt, an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster. He has many critics and he has many fans.

“There are many voices on Good Morning Britain and everyone has their say but now Piers has decided to leave the programme.”

She continued: “Some of you may cheer and others will boo. He has been my presenting partner, Monday to Wednesday, for more than five years.
