Susanna Reid thrilled as Ben Shephard returns after GMB absence

Ben Shephard was welcomed back to the Good Morning Britain studio with open arms on Thursday’s show, after a notable absence from the show.

As soon as the episode started, Susanna Reid turned to her co-star Ben and asked him where he had disappeared to for the past few days.

The presenter, 46, revealed he had temporarily relocated to Bristol, where he films each episode of his daytime quiz show Tipping Point.

“You’ve been gone a while! What have you been up to?” Susanna asked, putting the spotlight on the dad-of-two.

“It’s all about the Tip,” Ben said, abbreviating Tipping Point and explaining he’d travelled to Gloucestershire to shoot the episodes.

Susanna noticed Ben had been “gone a while” from the show

Susanna was confused, as she pointed out at first she’d assumed he’d been to the dump, misinterpreting his use of the word “tip”.

Ben’s best mate Kate Garraway agreed as she chimed: “I had the same thought as you!”

The GMB presenter often takes time off to return to the Tipping Point set, producing a series of episodes over the course of several weeks.

Ben has fronted the hit game show since 2012, with the celebrity spin-off Tipping Point: Lucky Stars launching the following year.

To date, over 1,000 episodes have aired on ITV, with the show gaining a cult following on Twitter each afternoon at 4pm.

Tipping Point’s latest season debuted earlier this month, with Ben appearing on This Morning to promote the exciting twists and turns to come.

Speaking with hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, Ben revealed one contestant achieved a double double drop – meaning two of the coveted “double” coins fell in the same drop.

Ben explained filming had been taking place in Bristol in recent weeks

The show-first meant Ben had to pause filming and consult his rule book, as he explained: “They have these things called bibles for game shows, and we had to stop filming and go, ‘Does anybody know what happens when double double…’, we had to stop.”

“It was a miraculous comeback from the contestant who gets it,” he went on, explaining: “Cause she’s out, she’s dead and buried, she’s not going through, and all of a sudden this double double dropped. So there’s still these crazy bits of exciting moments.”

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
