Tiger King Joe Exotic and husband Dillon filing for divorce after split

Joe Exotic’s husband Dillon Passage has taken to Instagram to confirm that he and the Tiger King star are separating and set to get a divorce.

Dillon said the parting between the couple “wasn’t an easy decision” but the current circumstances of their marriage “isn’t fair to either of them”.

Dillon’s emotional outpouring came after Joe himself took to Instagram hours before to vent his anger at their split.

Dillon said the presidential pardon “we were all waiting for never came” and their hopes were “dashed”, when Exotic and his legal team were confident the Trump administration would pardon the star.

The 25-year-old followed it up with a post on Friday where he wrote: “To answer the main question the public wants to know, yes, Joe and I are seeking a divorce.

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make but Joe and I both understand that this situation isn’t fair to either of us.

“It’s something that neither of us were expecting but we are going to take it day by day. We are on good terms still and I hope it can stay that way.

“I will continue to have Joe in my life and do my best to support him while he undergoes further legal battles to better his situation.”

Dillon’s post made it clear he has been struggling with the relationship being lived out across social media and the pressures that come from the current situation.

He wrote: “I don’t feel obligated to explain to the world what occurs in my personal life and, despite Joe taking to social media to air every grievance.

“I don’t feel it’s the healthiest way to handle private matters between two people. I therefore don’t intend to post any more on this subject.

Joe and Dillon met in 2017 and after just 9 months of being together Joe was arrested and eventually sent to prison for 22 years after a jury found him guilty of of hiring someone to murder Carole Baskin.

Joe and Dillon have been apart for two and a half years and Dillon feels that he can’t carry after feeling like he has a “microscope constantly looming” over him.

Joe was the focus of a Netflix documentary in 2020 called “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” which focused on Exotic, his zoo, and his feud with rival Baskin.

In the final paragraph Dillon’s post he wrote: “Be careful of the assumptions you place on others. Everyone carries a challenge or burden you may not see. This is as true for me as it may be for you.”

In March 2021, it was revealed that The Cult Of Joe Exotic, a new Louis Theroux documentary centred on Exotic, will be released for the BBC.

On the upcoming documentary Theroux said: “This is one of those quintessentially American stories, taking place in the heartland of Oklahoma, with a cast of characters almost too colourful and larger-than-life to be believed.”
