Tipping Point fans spot epic blunder in player's strategy over Mona Lisa question

Tipping Point fans were baffled when they spotted an error in one player’s tactics during a question on famous paintings.

Friday’s show (December 3) saw four new contestants walk into the ITV studio in the hopes of bagging a hefty cash prize from the notoriously tough Tipping Point arcade machine.

Chloe, Suzanne, Bill and Drai faced off against each other on rigorous questions of general knowledge, where they earn counters for each correct answer.

When they collect counters during the rounds, contestants can use them to win money by dropping them into the machine in a bid to push counters off of the shelf.

However, when Chloe was faced with a question on a famous painting in the penultimate round, her strategy left some viewers scratching their heads.

Chloe’s question, asked by host Ben Shephard, was: “Which 1665 painting by Johannes Vermeer is sometimes known as ‘The Mona Lisa of the North’?”

The Dutch painting was called the Girl with a Pearl Earring.

In a surprising turn of tactics though, Chloe admitted she didn’t know the answer and opted for the most famous painting in history – The Mona Lisa itself – even though it was explicitly named in the question so couldn’t have been a viable answer.

The Mona Lisa was done by famed Italian artist, Leonardo da Vinci between 1504 and 1506.

ITV viewers were confused as to why Chloe answered the Mona Lisa when the question made it clear that the painting couldn’t have been that painting, given that the Dutch work was branded a different version of the iconic Italian piece.

One viewer on Twitter said: “Mona Lisa is in the question!”

A second commented: “The Mona Lisa of the North is called… the Mona Lisa.”

A third said: “Correct answer: The Girl with a Pearl Earring. Answer given: the Mona Lisa” as they attached a shurgging-emoji.

Chloe’s fellow player Suzanne won the game and walked away with £2600

Other viewers weren’t best pleased with her technique of repeatedly passing her questions over to her rival player, Suzanne, as it meant she was losing out on the opportunity to win counters.

One fan said: “Chloe is giving her counters away like they’re contraband.”

Chloe had still beaten her fellow contestants Bill and Drai, who were knocked out in the first two rounds, but she was evicted before the final with a total of £600.

Suzanne managed to rack up a dominant lead of over £2000, and although she wasn’t able to nab the Jackpot Counter, she walked away with a stack of £2600.

She said that she’ll be using the money to fund a trip to Australia.
