Tom Allen says his savage words to Dan Walker 'helped him' on Strictly Come Dancing

Comedian Tom Allen has said his savage words about Dan Walker’s dancing might have “helped” the BBC presenter on Strictly Come Dancing.

The Great British Bake Off: Extra Slice host blasted Dan Walker’s dancing as he appeared on BBC’s It Takes Two on Friday (November 5).

Tom and the rest of the panel had been watching Dan dance with his professional partner Nadiya Bychkova, and host Rylan Clark-Neal had described the routine as “street”.

However, Tom wasn’t buying it, and he said: “That doesn’t look very street – I’m not an expert, but that was the least street thing I’ve seen”.

Dan and Nadiya made it through to the next round on Saturday night (November 6) with their couple’s choice dance to the song Classic by MKTO.

Tom revealed what he thought of Dan at the Together For Short Lives Ball on Tuesday (November 9), a charity event in London which he hosted.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Star, Tom said that the judges “aren’t that confident in him”, and that the BBC presenter could be booted off of the show soon.

However, he did admit that he thought Dan was “really good” last week, and teased that it could all be down to his “negativity”.

When asked who he thinks will be next to leave the show, he replied: “You’ve got to say somebody you think is going to go. I mean, they’re all really good.

“And to be fair, Dan, you know, the the criticism of Dan, sort of let me think maybe they’re not that bad for me.”

“The judges aren’t that confident in him and maybe it will be soon [that he’s eliminated].

“But then actually, on Saturday, it was really good. So maybe my negativity actually helped as well.”

Dan and Nadiya only scored 28 out of a possible 40 from the judges, and they were second from the bottom of the leaderboard.

The pair escaped the dance-off as Adam Peaty and Katya Jones were voted out after scoring 27 points.

Speaking on who he thinks should win Strictly, Tom picked TV presenter AJ Odudu as his favourite.

He said: “AJ, I think, is the ray of sunshine in the world that we all need. And she’s had such a beautiful few weeks now. She’s just kind and open and positive and hardworking.

“I thought that Charleston just epitomises just that abundant joy. So she’s incredible.”

Asked if he would every do Strictly, Tom answered that he would “love to”, but he reckons he would fall down the stairs” as he gets “very nervous”.

He said: “I would love to do strictly myself. But I fall down the stairs, I get very nervous. Do you know what I mean?

“If you think about things, do you ever do that on staircases, do you think about the fact that you’re walking up or down stairs, you fall over?”
