A Place in the Sun guests stop viewing midway through as property is 'concrete jungle'

A Place in the Sun’s Danni Menzies was left mortified when her guests shut down a flat viewing.

House hunters Martyn and Sharon were looking to purchase their first home together in the sunny tourist spot of Algarve in Portugal.

With their budget of £160,000 and a wiggle room of an extra £20,000, they wanted a modern two-bed apartment that’s big enough to have outside space for barbecues.

Danni brought the couple to the town of Albufeira and showed them a modern duplex apartment on the top floor but Martyn was put off by the exterior of the building.

“No, I’m not convinced,” he shook his head and told Danni.

The moment turned to an awkward pause before Dannie explained: “I know the initial kerb appeal is that it might need a paint, if you look over this way, these buildings have been done recently and this one is going to get done next year.

“When you look at it, bear in mind that it will get a face lift next year.”

The split-level apartment offers two bedroom and great views of the sea, and more importantly, it’s under budget.

But Martyn and Sharon’ were not too impressed when they stepped inside the apartment.

Martyn said it’s not “floating my boat yet” as he looked at the small, fitted living room and open kitchen.

He added: “The modern style of the apartment could do but the exterior was more like a…it looked to me like a concrete jungle and this is just a module that’s been put inside – an updated version of what was there before.”

Sharon also expressed that the place was not giving her the “vibe” she was looking for.

“It’s not a wow factor, it’s an hour factor,” Martyn noted.

They told Danni that there was no point to look further in the duplex and cut the viewing short.

Viewers sided with Martyn and said he gave a “good description” of the apartment.

“The exterior certainly needs a face lift – it’s bloody horrible!” one said and another wrote: “That went down like The Hinderburg!”
