Actor Murray Head, 76, 'rushed to hospital after horror collision with lorry'

Actor Murray Head was rushed to hospital following a crash with a lorry in France.

The 76-year-old actor reportedly lost control of his car on the Gan ring road in Pyrénées-Atlantiques as he was heading home to Saucède.

Local media reports that he was taken to hospital in Pau conscious but with “relative urgency”. 

Speaking to media outlet Sud Ouest, the actor said he was “incredibly lucky” as he said he was going north-south but soon found himself going the other way.

He added: “Was I dazzled by the sun? I don’t know. I hadn’t had anything to drink.”

Head explained that he has “aches and pains” and said it “hurts a lot” as he told the publication he is “incredibly lucky” as he reportedly returned home on Tuesday. 

The driver also involved in the collision was unharmed. 

The crash was reported to have happened on Monday around 3pm after he did an interview in France following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Murray has lived in France for many years after his acting career in the UK – but he now performs as a singer songwriter in the nearby country. 

Speaking to the BBC on his decision to move to France, he said: “The thing about the French is, they are very, very faithful. When they like you, they stick with you.

“In the UK, everyone is chased out by the next media sensation.” 

He also stated that he was “popular in France,” so he opted to “earn his keep” there and has been touring for more than four decades.

As for his acting credits he’s appeared in Vera, Casualty, Sunday Bloody Sunday and White Mischief in his time. 

Although his music career didn’t quite take off in the UK, he’s been able to spend his career singing thanks to his popularity in France. 

Having previously spent many years of his life in Paris, Head opted for a slightly more relaxed life in recent years and headed furhter out to the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, which sits just shy of the border into Spain.
