BBC Breakfast fans 'switch off' as they fume over excessive World Cup coverage

BBC Breakfast fans were left feeling frustrated after they tuned in to their favourite morning news show to see almost nothing but World Cup coverage.

England and Wales are due to play against each other later today (29 Nov) as the first Home Nations to play against each other in a World Cup.

However, some BBC viewers found the coverage a bit excessive after presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay discussed the upcoming match.

The show had a reporter based in Swansea who interviewed a group of school children, willing to express their excitement by screaming and singing in front of the camera.

Another reporter was based in Doha who spoke about the historic battle and reported back to Sally and Jon in the studio.

Fans turned to social media after they realise that the coverage wasn’t going to stop any time soon and shared their frustrations.

One wrote: “Ok BBC Breakfast, [ten] minutes of this cheesy World Cup coverage is [eight] minutes too many. The kids are cute, Wales will obviously lose, you’ll no doubt do 20 mins of every 30 on their broken hearts tomorrow. How about some actual news?”

Another tweeted: “Who decides what stories to cover on BBC Breakfast? Are you a sports show or a topical show? All you show are sports stories. GMB discussing crackdowns in China and you’re talking to a boy who made friends with a footballer ffs. Switching off.”

An irritated viewer also sarcastically tweeted: “If you watch BBC Breakfast at the moment you’d think the whole world lived in Wales.”

More tweets followed with fans telling the show to “bore off” and “get a grip,” while one person joked that BBC Breakfast were returning to their reporter in Doha “every ten minutes”.

Breakfast weather presenter Sarah Keith-Lucas also appeared on the show to present her segment.

The host has recently replaced fan favourite Carol Kirkwood in a major studio shake up.

60-year-old Kirkwood is usually on hand to deliver the weather but presenter Jon Kay recently informed viewers that Sarah will be presenting the weather over the “next few days,” although he didn’t mention why Carol was absent.
