BBC Breakfast's Dan Walker got phone call from Louise Minchin after alarm disaster

Dan Walker has revealed that he once got a surprise phone call from Louise Minchin that “saved” him from turning up late to BBC Breakfast.

The BBC Breakfast host said he has never shown up late to his famous BBC show, but there was a time when his former co-host Louise “saved the day” after his alarm clock failed him by running out of battery.

Taking to Instagram, Dan held a Q&A for his fans, and one wanted top know if Dan had ever failed to turn up to set on time.

The fan asked: “Have you ever been late to BBC Breakfast?”

Dan replied: “No but @louiseminchin did call me once because my alarm had run out of battery!!!! She saved the day… again”.

Dan and Louise hosted BBC Breakfast for nearly five years together – three days a week – until she left the show in September.

She had almost worked for the programme for 20 years – after joining the team as an anchor in 2012.

Her last BBC Breakfast programme on September 15 was an emotional one, and it involved her pal Dan reading out fan messages to her before walking off set to surprise her with a farewell party.

Before the show, Dan paid a touching tribute to his co-host on social media.

He wrote: “I can’t believe it has come about so quickly.

“After five-and-a-half years sharing a sofa with this wonderful woman (who has done it for 20 years) tomorrow is Louise Minchin’s last day on BBC Breakfast.

“I hope you can join us to say ‘goodbye’.”

Louise recently starred on the twenty-first series of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, which took place at Gwrych Castle in North Wales for the second year running due to the pandemic.

She finished in second place on the show, starring alongside ex-Emmerdale star Danny Miller who was crowned the King of the Castle.

Dan showed his support for Louise when she was on the show.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “She’s been a ray of positivity and joy for the Campmates since day 1, but Louise’s Castle story has finally reached its end European castle #ImACeleb.”

When she left, gutted Dan wrote: “NOOOOO!!! Put her back in.”
