BGT judges' biggest bust-ups – brutal divorce jibe, Lauren Silverman 'row' and snub

Sometimes talent show contestants aren’t the only ones who bring major shade.

The Britain’s Got Talent judging panel is a huge source of drama on and off-camera as fiery judges Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden, Simon Cowell and David Walliams entertain the nation on the ITV hit show.

Over the years the nation has watched the fiery foursome duke it out over controversial acts in front of the cameras and make bold swipes at one another to reporters.

But off camera, the judges have also engaged in some serious feuds.

From divorce swipes, major snubs and contestants rows, check out our round up of the top five BGT judges feuds…

The internet was set alight back in 2020 with rumours that BGT judge Alesha Dixon was “at war” with Simon Cowell’s beau, Lauren Silverman.

A report claimed Lauren had a “showdown” with Alesha over fears she was too close to Simon on Britain’s Got Talent.

It was claimed the confrontation happened backstage at auditions in London and left judge Alesha shaken and upset.

A source told The Sun that crew members said Lauren “didn’t like the fact Simon and Alesha whispered to each other in recording gaps”.

Alesha eventually hit back at the reports on Twitter, blasting: “First class journalism at its best again! Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story!

“How long can they keep getting away with this negative, toxic behaviour!”

She added: “Lauren has been nothing but gracious to my family! Have you learnt nothing from Caroline [Flack]’s passing! #bekind.”

Simon vs David

Amanda Holden dished the dirt on jibes between Simon Cowell and David Walliams back in 2016 after the pair shared a series of frosty moments.

Speaking to Fabulous magazine, Amanda revealed that Simon took his banter with David too far, commenting on Dave’s break-up with ex-wife Lara Stone .

Amanda said: “David made it personal [first]… he dares it and Simon comes straight back in at him, and the joke ends there because he can always top David.

“He’s out-funnied David a lot this series. David is very p***ed off, actually.”

The TV funnyman and his estranged model ex-wife, who he shares son Alfred, ended their five-year marriage in a hearing lasting less than 60 seconds back in 2015.

Walliams cited Stone’s ‘unreasonable behaviour’ as he asked for the quickie divorce, with the decree nisi being granted only six weeks after the filing.

Simon’s snub

David told the Daily Star: “ I do think if you’re out of sight you’re out of mind with him”

The rumour mill started circulating in 2020 after reports that David Walliams was snubbed by Simon Cowell.

The comedian had reportedly not heard from his friend for six months, triggering rumours that David might be leaving the show.

David told the Daily Star: “I haven’t heard from him for about six months. I do think if you’re out of sight you’re out of mind with him.

“When we are together it’s fun but I don’t think he’s sitting there thinking, ‘I wonder how David is, I must give him a call and let him know I’m OK and thank him for doing such a good job on Britain’s Got Talent when I wasn’t there or send him a little bottle of champagne or a note saying, ‘Thanks Dave’.

“No, I never hear from him.”

David added: “Simon doesn’t have a phone. Well, either he doesn’t have a phone or he hasn’t given me his number.

“It might be the latter! But I am in touch with Lauren his partner. She shows me pictures of Eric and I send her pictures of my son, so I hear how he’s doing through her.”

Throwing insults

Tensions were on the rise behind the scenes earlier this year as Simon Cowell and David Walliams began swiping at each other

It seems tensions were very much on the rise behind the scenes in the Britain’s Got Talent studio earlier this year as Simon Cowell and David Walliams began swiping at each other.

Gathering for a Q&A, Simon branded his co-star “desperate” in a cheeky jibe which saw David later admit he was “angry” with his fellow judges.

While speaking to Daily Star, a tiff erupted as David accused Simon of trying to “copy” him.

Asked about their various judging styles, David explained: “I think Simon is trying to copy me, because he realised I was very popular being the nice one and being the funny one.

“So now he is constantly trying to be nice all the time – and it is really really irritating!” But Amanda Holden was quick to console Simon, snapping back:

“David’s just bitter because you’re funnier than David now!”

Simon couldn’t help but escalate things, as he referred to David’s “desperate” attempts to score award wins after various nominations.

Simon giggled: “Possibly, yeah. Also, I don’t do a whole campaign when I’m nominated for one of these judges awards – which is what I’ve seen him do!

“He never stops telling his followers to vote for him. I mean, that’s desperate.”

Amanda vs Alesha

The ladies of the panel saw red when they began arguing about a pet act during their judging stint in 2018.

The pair watched designer Nina Naustdal audition for the talent show with her pet chihuahuas who were dressed in dazzling doggy coats and bejewelled collars before she paraded them catwalk-style.

While Amanda was a huge fan of the act, Alesha blasted the performance, saying she was not a fan of dressing up pets in clothing.

A show source told the Daily Star: “Alesha and Amanda usually agree on most things when it comes to Britain’s Got Talent acts but this time they were at loggerheads.

“Alesha normally loves most animal acts like dancing dogs, but this wasn’t her cup of tea.

“She doesn’t like it when pet owners dress up their animals like children.

Amanda thought it was funny and charming. And the pair had a fall out.”
