Coolio went to Brit student halls, rapped in lounge then cooked 'Chicken á la Daaaamn'

He might have been one of the biggest names in the rap game, but Coolio once showed up to a student flat in Preston and cooked everyone a three-course meal.

The late US rapper has sadly passed away aged 59 after suffering a heart attack at a friend’s house in Los Angeles, according to his manager, Jarez.

The rap legend was apparently found dead in the bathroom late on Wednesday afternoon (September 28) after being unresponsive for a long time.

Back in 2013, Coolio surprised a lucky group of students in Preston by whipping them up a three-course meal and performing his 1995 hit Gangsta’s Paradise in their living room.

It’s not every day you get to meet a Grammy-award winning rapper, but you certainly don’t expect them to rock up to your student digs and start cooking dinner.

The US star had been performing at Macs Bar in Preston when he met the students and offered to cook for shocked revellers.

He clearly stuck to his word, and he even took the students to a supermarket to buy ingredients before taking his talents to their kitchen.

Melissa Bryan, a law student, said the rapper’s “delicious” menu included Caprese Salad, Chicken á la Daaaamn and Peach Crumble.

She described the food as “great”, but the sing-along was even better.

“I was three when Gangsta’s Paradise was released but it is a classic. We all knew the words off by heart. Every student does,” she added.

A clip from the night has gone viral on YouTube with a whopping 8million hits to its name.

Kelly Maguire, a fashion student from Liverpool, said it was “such a crazy and surreal moment, I had to film it”.

“It is amazing how many people have already watched it,” she added. “We have been getting calls from media in the UK and America ever since.”

The sing-along saw the famous rapper jam with Lorcan O’Mahony, who backed up the star on his acoustic guitar.

He admitted he “conveniently left” his trusty instrument in the front room when he heard the rapper was paying them a visit.

He said: “After dinner, I asked if he would perform Gangsta’s Paradise and we all got involved. It is something I will never forget.”

He added that he had “only learnt the chords a few hours earlier”.

It wasn’t until the early hours of the morning, 03:00 BST, that the rapper left the house to catch a flight.
