Coronation Street fans annoyed as Nick displays 'harsh' tactics to discipline Sam

Nick Tilsley appeared to infuriate Coronation Street viewers on Monday night after he prohibited his son from playing chess.

The father-of-one seemed to have a bee in his bonnet after he realised Sam wasn’t doing his homework due to his love for his favourite board game.

But considering the fact Sam lost his mother last year, many were concerned with Nick’s delivery and warned him not to be too harsh.

Taking to Twitter Corrie fans shared their thoughts.

One viewer wrote: “Let him play chess Nick, u were smoking tabs and running away from home at his age, and not long later getting married.”

Another said: “Nick is being so harsh.”

A third chimed: “Give it a couple years nick you’ll be wishing and praying it was only chess Sam was into.”

But others were a bit confused with where Coronation Street was going with the chess storyline and commented on this too.

One baffled viewer questioned: “What the hell is this Sam chess storyline, may I ask?”

Another wrote: “Why does ar Meena get so many compliments but this boring chess thing doesn’t.”

Meanwhile, a third specator thought it was a good storyline and said: “The Roy and Sam storyline is giving me big autism vibes. I think both characters have a lot of ASD coding. Especially with Sam and his mutism, and it’s an actually good portrayal of autism symptoms (imo) unlike the sh*t show we got on EastEnders.”

Later on in the programme, Roy Cropper appeared heartbroken when Nick told him that Sam will no longer be allowed to play chess with him for the foreseeable future.

Surprised by Nick’s admission, Roy tried to find out how long Sam’s ban would last for.

But Nick failed to give a definitive answer which Roy was left saddned by.

Seeing the cafe owner pack up the chess pieces that he previously laid out for his upcoming game, fans were upset with Nick once again.

“Why is Nick so upset that his son is finally happy and speaking again after the death of his mum pls,” one social media user voiced.
