Dame Deborah James gives bosses permission to air final TV appearance after her death

Dame Deborah James will make one more TV appearance in the coming months as she continues to raise awareness for bowel cancer.

The heroic writer and campaigner will appear on the E4 show Embarrassing Bodies later in the year, and she has given her blessing for the episode to be aired even if she is no longer here.

40-year-old Deborah filmed the episode earlier in the year before she reached the heart breaking stage of her cancer where she is receiving end of life care

In the episode, viewers will watch as she speaks to young people about her story with bowel cancer in some heartbreaking scenes.

Mum-of-two Deborah spoke to The Sun and said: “I might not live to see the episode air but I hope the message to ‘Check your poo’ will live on, long after I’m gone.

“It might be embarrassing but it might just save your life. Early diagnosis of things like bowel cancer saves lives. So don’t live to regret it, and don’t risk dying because you’re shy.

“I’ve given my blessing for this episode to run if I’m gone, if it helps save one life it will be worth it.”

Despite E4 not confirming when the episode will be aired, it is expected to hit screens towards the end of June.

Embarrassing Bodies is back in a reboot of the show after a whopping seven years off screen.

Back in 2016, Deborah was diagnosed with bowel cancer and in the show she will push the message to ‘check your poo’ with one of the show’s new doctors Dr Tosin Ajayi-Sotubo.

Deborah will be amongst a number of famous faces who will discuss their health stories on the show in a bid to raise awareness and educate people on some topics.

This week Deborah, who is the star of the podcast You Me and the Big C, admitted that she is “gutted” that she will probably also miss out on her best-selling book hitting the shops in August.
