David Walliams slammed by BGT wannabe who claims he mocked her for flirting at audition

David Walliams was branded a “horrible man” by a Britain’s Got Talent wannabe who she claims was mocked by him for flirting at an audition.

The judge has apologised for making “disrespectful comments” about contestants in “private conversations” during breaks in filming of the telly talent show in 2020.

But singer, songwriter and comedian Clare Harrison Mccartney, who alleged she was one of those targeted, said she did not accept his apology for “disgusting” behaviour.

She said the former Little Britain star was referring to her when he said: “She’s like the slightly boring girl you meet in the pub that thinks you want to f*** them but you don’t.’”

Clare tweeted: “This comment was about me when I auditioned for BGT in 2020. This is disgusting. I wasn’t putting out sex vibes to him. What a horrible man.

“I went in BGT to try to further my comedy career and he exploited me saying I was giving out sexual vibes to him. Don’t flatter yourself #davidwalliams. I wouldn’t want to #### you even if I won you in a raffle!’”

Clare, from Essex, said she was “penniless and living in a council flat” and went on the show for a “better life”.

But the experience left her “low for years”.

She said at her audition Walliams asked her if she was single or married and “as a joke because I’m a comedian” she had replied: “Why are you offering?”

But she insisted she had “never fancied him” and there was “no way” she had been “sending sexual signals”.

“What an absolute wrongen implying I went on BGT for that,” she tweeted.

“He’s a misogynist who implied I was up for it when I have never fancied him. You’ve shown your true misogynistic colours. Narcissists always think everyone fancies them. What a vile man he is.

“He’s a rich bloke who thinks he’s better than me because he’s got money. I don’t accept this apology.”

She said Walliams should go on I’m A Celebrity and donate his fee to his “victims”.

Former X Factor star Katie Waissel, who now runs a welfare group for creative artists, said she was “shocked” and “deeply disturbed” by Walliams’ remarks and “heartbroken for the victims”.

She vowed to raise the issue at a forthcoming meeting with the Department for Digital, Culture Media & Sport at which she will request an “emergency stop” to the filming of all reality TV shows until participants’ welfare is safeguarded in law.

Katie said “abuse” was “not entertainment irrespective of consent which is more often than not coerced in a pressured environment”.

She called for Walliams to be suspended while “this serious breach in conduct” is investigated.

BGT bosses have given the star a warning over his behaviour and “future professional conduct”.

A spokesman for the show’s production company Fremantle said his language – though used in “private” – was “inappropriate”.
