Denise Welch upstaged by soap star son in photo error as he finds Hollywood fame

Louis Healy certainly has a star-studded family but the former Emmerdale actor is perhaps becoming more famous than his parents and older brother, Matty Healy.

The 21-year-old who appeared on the ITV soap has now teased that he’s setting his sights on Hollywood fame after attending auditions and meetings while in Los Angeles.

However, he has since become known across the globe after starring as Billy Scanlon in Hotel Portofino alongside Rocco Fasano and Natascha McElhone.

The six-episode first season was aired on BritBox in January 2022 and has become a smash across the world including Australia and is set to be aired on ITV this summer.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, Louis said: “We knew that the success of Hotel Portofino have to number one here because those sort of shows, we get a lot of them here and people are spoilt for choice.

“To land like it has overseas, here, it would have to knock a few things off the charts.

“The response to it has been amazing, I mean, someone recognised me in America because their mum is at home in Australia and is such a big fan of Portofino.”

He added: “Because I don’t really know anyone from Australia, we haven’t really heard about it and all of a sudden, a couple of weeks ago, we had emails from the producers being like ‘by the way guys, we’re the most successful show in Australia in the past however many months’.

“It was incredible, it’s not just Australia, it’s done well in loads of other countries as well, Italy, I think it’s starting to do really well there.”

While out in Los Angeles with his mum, Loose Women star Denise Welch, Louis was asked for a picture by a fan – who asked his famous mum to take the snap.

He joked: “That was quite fun, especially seeing my mum’s reaction, it was a lovely trip, usually when I go out there I’ll do a few meetings and auditions.

Louis hopes to crack the Hollywood industry after becoming a global name after Hotel Portofino

“Some girls asked me for a picture, we were just walking down the street and she probably knew me through being a fan of The 1975 but she was like ‘Oh my God, is your surname Healy?’

“Mum looked at me and said ‘Oh great, this is happening now is it?’, she asked ‘can I get a photo?’ and then gave the phone to my mum to take it which was brilliant.”

Despite his success, Louis explained that he never wanted to be famous but “really excelled” in acting from the age of ten.

While his parents Denise and Tim Healy are huge names in the television industry, he says it “took a bit of time” to convince Healy to allow his son to enter the business as it can “affect some kids quite negatively”.

“I was never too bothered about the fame side because I grew up so exposed to all that and how fake a lot of that stuff can be, I think because my parents were always so grounded in the way that they dealt with it, it never really fazed me,” he added.
