EastEnders Ian Beale star shares secret behind incredible 3st weight loss transformation

EastEnders actor Adam Woodyatt has revealed that giving up drinking is the secret behind his incredible weight loss transformation.

The star, who plays Ian Beale in the popular BBC soap, has lost over three stone in the past year – and says he now drinks nothing ‘stronger than coffee’ and regularly cycles as part of his new healthy lifestyle.

Speaking to The Mirror, Adam said: “Basically I gave up alcohol. That was the biggest change I made.

“With giving up alcohol, the weight drops off and because the weight dropped it was easier to cycle. So it was easier to stay fit.”

Despite the huge impact that giving up alcohol has had on his weight loss, Adam added that he has not made ‘a big fuss of it’, saying: “Everyone’s different. For me, giving up alcohol was the right thing to do.

“I’m not going to turn around and say that’s it forever, that I’m never ever going to drink again.

“But at this point in my life, yeah, I’m quite happy not drinking. And the result is I’ve lost about three stone in weight.”

The actor had previously spoken about his weight loss journey, after being introduced to cycling by EastEnders co-star Jake Wood, describing the exercise as an amazing “escape from reality” following a difficult year.

Adam recently got divorced from wife Beverly Sharp, who he married in 1998 and shares two children with.

He also explained in his Mirror interview that he feels ‘100 per cent better’, with the star spending most of his life outdoors as he travels the UK in his motorhome between tour dates for stage production Looking Good Dead.

The actor has taken a break from EastEnders to appear in the stage adaption of Peter James’ book, as well as starring on ITV series I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

His I’m A Celeb stint saw him join stars including former BBC Breakfast presenter Louise Minchin and Coronation Street’s Simon Gregson for an appearance in the castle.

Adam previously told ITV’s Good Morning Britain viewers how I’m A Celeb was his “new start”.

He said: “It was just an escape from reality. You left the world behind. It was peace and quiet. There wasn’t anything they threw at me that I couldn’t do. I loved it.”

However, it is yet to be confirmed if Adam will be returning to Albert Square, despite rumoured claims of a new £300,000 deal for the actor to renew his contract with EastEnders.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
