Emmerdale fans sure child star has been replaced after unrecognisable transformation

Emmerdale fans were certain one child actor in the ITV soap had been replaced after he appeared totally unrecognisable in Thursday’s episode.

Heath Hope made a reappearance tonight (November 10) alongside his twin sister Cathy, as he tucked into a milkshake at the cafe with April Windsor and Arthur Thomas.

Heath, played by Sebastian Dowling, rarely appears on the show – and could be seen sporting long brunette hair in a huge diversion from his usual look.

In the cafe, Cathy and Heath made a quick exit to leave April and Arthur alone, insisting they had to walk Vinny’s dog Chip so April could ask Arthur out.

But viewers were more distracted by how grown-up Heath looked, with his voice noticeably deeper.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Ooh Heath channelling Kurt Cobain!” while another said: “Blimey! Didn’t recognise Heath there!”

Someone else was “loving” his hair transformation, as a fourth fan penned: “Heath with shaggy hair and a deep voice!”

“OMG Heath looks so different!” another posted, while someone else was sure he’d been “swapped”.

They posted: “Has Heath had a head swap or is it just because he’s hardly ever seen in person?”

Sebastian has played Heath since 2007, taking over from Lilith Kitching who played the youngster as a baby.

His real-life sister Gabrielle Dowling is well known for playing Cathy, and both were supposed to take on the roles from the twins’ on-screen birth featuring Bob and Viv Hope.

But Sebastian had to stay in hospital for an additional week after his birth, meaning the roles were taken on by Lilith and Ella Whitehouse Downes respectively.

Gabrielle recently opened up to Metro on what it was like to play the role of Cathy since she was four weeks old, explaining: “I’ve enjoyed having the opportunity to build the role that I’ve grown up with and develop the character of Cathy whilst learning from experienced actors and directors.

“I’ve been in the soap since I was four weeks old so it’s second nature to me. It’s one big family, everyone gets on and it’s a great atmosphere to work in.”
