GMB guest makes dig at Ben Shephard's 'standards' after correcting on-air blunder

Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard was corrected swiftly by guest Iain Dale after he made an error with his choice of words.

Speaking frankly on the Queen’s upcoming funeral and the people currently queuing in London, Ben used the word “less” instead of “fewer”.

But the broadcaster was left taken aback when Iain took a swipe at Ben while reminding him of his “standards”.

Correcting Ben, Iain chimed: “Fewer Ben, fewer!”

Left giggling, Ben agreed that he didn’t use the correct terminology in his sentence and went on to say it the correct way.

Ben replied: “Fewer! That’s right, yeah.”

But Iain then replied: “Keep your standards up.”

Ben joked: “My Oxford commas, I’m also rubbish with them by the way!”

ITV’s Good Morning Britain has been providing coverage on Queen Elizabeth’s death and the funeral which will take place on Monday (Sept 19).

The state funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey in London with fans already lining the streets in their droves to see the passing of the coffin.

Ben was left red faced after his correction

As GMB reporters spoke to people in the queue on the morning show, several fans shared their thoughts on the scenes as some complained that it was becoming repetitive.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “Is it going to be another day of mind numbingly tedious interviews with people in queues? Can we have a competition to see who can do the most obsequious interviews in a day?”

Another shared: “Why are we having yet more commentary of the queue? It was boring yesterday & is boring today. You are asking the same questions & obviously the answers are all the same! It’s not moving.”

While a Third added: “After spending yesterday’s episode of #gmb interviewing people stood in a queue #gmb have chosen to mix things up today and interview people in the same queue.”

Despite this, some were pleased to see the update on the London queues.

Sharing their thoughts one person said: “Lovely to see people paying their respects to the Queen and queueing up to 9 hours where as Mp’s and their families are cutting in the queues is there anything they won’t do.”

Another added: “Good luck to everybody in ‘the queue’ today. I couldn’t do it. My legs would have had enough after an hour.”
