GMB's Adil Ray claims Jesus, Mary and Joseph would be considered refugees today

Good Morning Britain host Adil Ray told his Twitter followers that Mary, Joseph and Jesus would be considered refugees today in his bid to “remind” people of the religious figures that mark Christmas Day.

He took to Twitter with his insightful revelation, writing: “Say this every year but we need reminding as many celebrate the life of Jesus Christ it’s worth noting Mary, Joseph and Jesus who fled Bethlehem would today be considered refugees.”

He continued: “With no safe routes had they wanted to come to Britain, they’d be on a dinghy. Merry Christmas.”

Adil’s tweet was spurred by the controversial government plans to deport refugees and immigrants to Rwanda were deemed lawful by the High Court.

The Home Office won a legal challenge against its own policy to send migrants, including those crossing the Channel in small boats to reach the UK, to the African country.

The decision was a blow to campaigners after it was announced at the Royal Courts of Justice in London.

Adil recently clashed with MP Greg Hands over the plans for immigration back in April.

Kate Garraway kicked off the conversation by quizzing the MP, asking: “One of the things he’s ploughed on with doing is this idea to solve in part immigration and handling of refugees by having them processed here and also processed in Rwanda. What’s your view?”

Greg said that “critics ought to show us what they think their alternative is,” before adding that “tough action is needed” and went on to praise the government for offering a “new solution.”

Adil then picked it up with a line of questioning, asking: “Under this scheme, if he arrived in the UK today, Jesus would be sent to Rwanda. Is that right? Would you send Jesus to Rwanda?”

Greg fought back, laughing as he replied: “I think It’s a ludicrous question. We’re 2,000 years later.”
