Great British Bake Off viewers thrilled as fan favourite returns to the tent

Great British Bake Off viewers were thrilled to see Sandi Toksvig back in the tent on Tuesday night – until they realised it was just a repeat.

Tuesday night’s instalment of the Stand Up To Cancer celebrity edition saw Sandi hosting alongside Noel Fielding, even though she left the show in 2020 and Matt Lucas has taken over from her.

Fans were delighted to see her, and there were several messages about it on Twitter.

One excited viewer tweeted a clip of people dancing about as confetti rained down on them, saying: “Sandi is back omggggg.”

“Thought Sandi was back for charity, but it’s a repeat,” said another person, with a long-faced emoji.

GBBO fans were happy to see Sandi

“I do like Matt Lucas but I really miss Sandi on this!!” said another.

One viewer joked: “Matt’s regenerated again.”

“A repeat… how disappointing,” said another dismayed fan.

“It’s only just dawned on me that tonight’s #GBBO is a repeat… I keep asking myself ‘Where’s Matt?'” admitted one person, adding: “@RealMattLucas where are you?”

Luckily, viewers were cheered up by celebrity contestant Louis Theroux, with plenty giving him love online and saying they couldn’t get enough of the documentary-maker.

“I love Louis Theroux,” one admirer posted, while another person said that it totally made their night.

“I am enjoying Louis Theroux narrating his #GBBO like it is some kinda gritty BBC documentary of his,” another fan posted.

“Channel 4 repeating the Louis Theroux #GBBO and it’s reminded me how much of a DILF he is,” another person said cheekily.

Comedians Russell Howard and Jenny Eclair and basketball player Ovie Soko were also on the show.

Ovie Soko was a contestant

Sandi announced in January 2020 that she was stepping down from Bake Off after three series, explaining that she was doing so to spend more time on other work.

“As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show,” she said in a statement at the time.

“Spending time with Prue (Leith), Paul (Hollywood) and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television.”
