Hollyoaks original Darren star Adam Booth 25 years after Channel 4 soap exit

Adam C Booth originally played the role of Hollyoaks’ Darren Osborne from 1996 until 1997, but where is the actor now, 25 years after his departure?

The role of Darren may be synonymous with Strictly Come Dancing star Ashley Taylor Dawson in 2022, but Adam Booth originally played the role of the Hollyoaks character.

Original Darren stuck around for a year, until being taken back to America when his dad Jack’s cheating tore the family apart.

Although not a household name, Adam has had a brilliant career and has been pretty successful when it comes to TV dramas, comedies and even the theatre.

Hollyoaks stint

Darren Osborne is a fictional character from the popular Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

The character was introduced as part of the Osborne family, making his first screen appearance on November 18, 1996 – when he was portrayed by Adam Booth.

In 1996 Darren arrived in Hollyoaks with parents Jack and Celia from America.

His mum Celia discovered that her hubby Jack had been having an affair with Dawn Cunningham, so Celia went back to America and took Darren with her.

In September 1999 Darren was recast and Ashley Taylor Dawson took on the role before leaving in 2001 to pursue his music career, although returned in 2003.

Ashley has portrayed Darren ever since and is one of the longest-running characters in the programme.

Subsequent soap roles

After popping up in Hollyoaks and then departing, Adam starred in five episodes of Crossroads in 2003 as Garth Guilder.

He has also been seen in other TV dramas and soaps like Where The Heart Is, Doctors and two episodes of Coronation Street in 2011 as a butcher.

In 2020 he even starred in a gripping ITV drama, The Bay, as Ian Thrower.

As well as appearing in exciting stage productions, he has also dabbled in pantomime, with his first stint being in 2004 as Aladdin in the same-named production.

He has also appeared in the likes of Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and The Wizard of Oz.

More recently Adam took on the role of Joey in the 2021 production of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

When the panto wrapped up at the end of January 2022, Adam took to Instagram to share a snap and penned: “After a dose of Covid and a manic busy time, just reflecting on this great production.

“Seventy-two shows with a fantastic cast. Brilliant audiences in the lovely @gohbelfast.

“Thanks as always to #michaelharrison. See ya Joey!”
