Inside Emmerdale Rhona star's life – co-star husband, rival soap role and stunning home

Rhona Goskirk had a huge shock in Emmerdale this week, as her mother Mary arrived unexpectedly in the village.

While Marlon Dingle attempted to propose to Rhona, Mary made her shock entrance – but why?

With Rhona and Mary’s relationship already strained, what will this mean for Rhona’s life in the village? Viewers will have to wait and see.

Rhona has had quite a few unexpected surprises recently, particularly following the arrival of her son Marcus Dean.

However, Rhona actress Zoe Henry’s life is far less dramatic – including a sweet bond with her onscreen mum, marriage to her Emmerdale co-star and living at her stunning Yorkshire home.

Rival soap roles

While Zoe Henry is known by Emmerdale fans as Rhona Goskirk, the actress also had a role in another rival soap.

In 1998, Zoe played Log Thwaite, the girlfriend of Geoffrey “Spider” Nugent, in popular ITV soap Coronation Street.

Although she only starred in six episodes, her character made a strong impact with long serving Weatherfield resident Toyah Battersby, leading to her break up with Spider.

That’s not all, as in 2007 Zoe took a break from Emmerdale to play another Weatherfield resident – Casey Carswell – who ended up having an affair with Ashley Peacock.

If that wasn’t enough, she also played DC Deanne Cunningham in BBC soap EastEnders in 2009.

Along with her soap roles, Zoe has also starred in some of the UK’s biggest TV series including The Bill, A Touch Of Frost, Conviction and Casualty.

Rhona Goskirk received an unexpected surprise in Emmerdale when her mother, Mary Goskirk, arrived in the village.

The on-screen mum and daughter have always had a strained relationship, but off screen, actress Zoe Henry and Louise Jameson share a sweet bond.

Doctor Who and Bergerac actress Louise Jameson told Daily Star that both she and Zoe grew up in the same town, meaning that the two actresses have a lot in common with one another.

She said: “Zoe Henry, who plays Rhona, comes from the exactly same place as me in Essex.

“We have a lot in common with each other which is a wonderful coincidence so we can really identify as mother and daughter.

“We’ve both played in the same parks and same forest growing up.

“I think she’s fantastic on and off screen and I feel blessed to be paired up with her really. Emmerdale have a buddy scheme and she’s my buddy so I feel like I’ve struck gold.”

Co-star husband

It is not only fame that Zoe has found working on Emmerdale, but she also found love too.

The actress began a relationship with Cain Dingle star Jeff Hordley, who she had originally met in drama school, after they were reunited on the set of Emmerdale in 2001.

The couple married two years later in 2003, and they have two children together – Violet, 15, and 11-year-old Stan – as well as their adorable dog Ronald.

Zoe has also revealed that the couple watch their diets closely, and grow their own food at home, after husband Jeff was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, telling Loose Women: “Jeff has Crohn’s. He was diagnosed when he was about 18, so he was 23 when I met him, and it’s sort of changed our lives.

“There’s a lot to be said about mental health and having your hands in the soil – that’s a big one for me.

“For Jeff, it’s the health benefits of eating what we’ve grown.”

Speaking about the affect the disease had on his time in drama school, Jeff told Daily Express: “I was a drama student in Manchester and sometimes I had to miss lectures because I was too tired.

“I even had to drop out of my final year plays.”

However, it is reported that he has since managed the condition through regular exercise, changes to his diet and taking a mixture of supplements.

Stunning home

When Zoe and Jeff are not delighting viewers in Emmerdale, the couple relax at their stunning home in Yorkshire.

Both stars have given fans a glimpse into their home on social media, with Jeff looking proud as she showed off his produce at their home allotment.

Jeff also smiled for the camera as he held one of his many giant vegetables, before the star prepped it in their stunning kitchen, which features patterned tiles and oak woodwork.

As well as Zoe showing off one of her many dishes cooking on the hob, they couple have also shared images of their sprawling allotment, and revealed that they love to grow their own food.

Talking about their love of growing fresh produce, Zoe told Fabulous magazine: “We have an allotment and it’s so therapeutic to have your hands in the earth.

“We’re mindful of what we eat, but watching our diet isn’t about being on TV, it’s more about general wellbeing, as Jeff has Crohn’s disease.

“The kids love cooking with us. The other night Violet made a dal from scratch!”
