ITV fans fume as Love Island star’s picture is shown during poignant tribute to Queen

ITV fans were left seething as a picture of a Love Island star flashed up during a poignant tribute to the Queen.

GMB’s Ranvir Singh was stepping in for Lorraine Kelly on her morning show during the school holidays, and raised a cheeky glass of bubbly to the monarch for her Platinum Jubilee.

The Queen is celebrating 70 years on the throne this weekend – but it was Love Island commentator Iain Stirling who ended up stealing the show.

Ranvir was chatting to former royal butler Paul Burrell at the time, as she raised a glass of champagne and said: “From us, a toast to Her Majesty, Paul.”

Paul added: “God bless you, your Majesty, this is your time,” as Ranvir echoed: “This is your time. Thank you for everything you’ve done, Your Majesty.”

God Save the Queen then played out on speakers in the studio – but an accompanying image of Iain Stirling flashed up on-screen instead.

His image was hastily replaced by a picture of the Queen with a caption that read: “Happy Platinum Jubilee” as the National Anthem continued to play.

Comedian Iain is set to appear on Lorraine on Friday to discuss series eight of the ITV dating show, which starts later this month.

But one -eyed viewer quickly spotted the snap, going on to tweet: “What was Iain Stirling from Love Island doing there?”

“Not interested in Love Island!” someone else moaned.

It came as other fans slammed Paul Burrell for calling an RP accent “proper English” – and telling viewers the Queen taught him how to speak ‘properly’.

Paul, who originally hails from Derbyshire, used to have a broader accent.

Viewers immediately took to Twitter to complain about the segment, with one writing: “Paul Burrell saying the Queen taught him to speak ‘English’ because he had a broad Derbyshire accent. The regional dialects in England are older than ‘Queen’s English’!”

“The Queen taught Paul Burell how to speak ‘properly’ and not in his original northern accent!” another replied with a shocked emoji.

Lorraine airs from 9am weekdays on ITV.
