ITV viewers 'give up' on Holding after first episode as they slam 'ridiculous' new drama

A brand new ITV drama landed on Monday night, but it seems it hasn’t quite grasped the attention of viewers just yet.

Before the first episode had wrapped, frustrated viewers were already complaining about the new TV series and demanding that it be ripped off air.

The drama, which is based on a book by Graham Norton and has since been adapted by Kathy Burke, sparked a lot of conversation once it aired, but not quite in a positive way.

From claims that the show hasn’t done the book justice or swipes that the characters cast are “unlikeable”, many people had a lot to say about the new drama.

The series is set in Ireland and is planned to be a weekly drama based around the discovery of a body in a small community.

The cast includes the likes of Conleth Hill, Charlene McKenna and Helen Behan, to name a few.

Three more episodes will be coming out following the initial pilot, but fans aren’t quite convinced that they’ll keep watching, with some switching off mere minutes into the new series.

Taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the show, one person wrote: “Ok so Holding is a bit too odd and I won’t be watching it again. Sometimes, you can try too hard.”

Another said: “What is this dreadful drama – sounded good from the announcer before it started but it’s dire and full of very unlikeable characters.”

A third person wrote: “Dear ITV… if anyone gets any urges to book a second season of Holding please lock them in the shed immediately.”

Others, who loved the book, were left wholeheartedly unimpressed at the adaptation, with one person writing: “It’s like they never read the book before shooting it. Not impressed at all.”

It wasn’t all bad though – and some fans were left impressed with the series.

Meanwhile, other fans hailed the series “brilliant” and praised the cast

One user wrote: “I’m enjoying Holding, it’s a fairly gentle introduction to the characters – and I am getting flashbacks to visiting various relatives in small Irish villages!”

While another called the series “brilliant” and praised Kathy Burke for the cast.

The series was announced in May 2021 and a lot of excitement was surrounded the adaptation, and while the show appears to have left viewers torn, there are still three more episodes left to air.
