ITV's Lorraine Kelly sends emotional message to 'frail' co-star in ICU after infection

ITV’s Lorraine Kelly shared an emotional message to her “frail” co-star Deborah James.

Deborah has been battling stage four bowel cancer for the past five years and has since constantly tried to raise awareness on Lorraine’s show.

The star is currently in an intensive care unit after getting an infection and starred on Lorraine’s programme.

The ITV show is currently promoting its No Butts campaign, which is supported by Bowel Cancer UK, in a bid to make viewers aware of the symptoms and catch an early diagnosis.

The 40-year-old has been the face of the campaign since her diagnosis and said she was gutted not to be in the studio due to her illness.

She is currently recovering from an infection that she caught over the weekend, however, could be seen in hospital in a gown and bunny ears as she sent a message to Lorraine.

Deborah said: “I’m so sad not to be there at the launch of the No Butts campaign. But obviously, my health has had a bit of a ride recently – still in hospital. Actually, sitting outside on the balcony outside ICU but I’m getting better.

“However, I’ve sent my mum along because this year’s campaign is going to be bigger and peachier than ever. We have pants and flags. We’re flying the flag for bowel cancer all around the UK.

“And it’s so important that we continue to raise awareness because ultimately if we stop it and catch it earlier, we can save lives. Thank you guys for being part of that and spreading the word.”

Responding to her message, Lorraine gushed: “Thank you Deborah! We’re sending you all our love – I know she’s watching this morning.”

Deborah’s mum Heather also gave an update

She was also joined by Deborah’s mum Heather as Lorraine added: “Heather, as we can see, she’s a wee bit frail, but the spirit is there! She is quite remarkable.”

Her mum said: “Not the Easter we planned. But a good Easter in a different way. We put the bunny ears on – including me – and we delivered eggs and we got outside of ICU. Now she’s got the infection under control and hopefully she’ll be back dancing soon.”

Lorraine airs weekdays at 9am on ITV
