Jason Momoa’s transformation – Baywatch hunk, Game of Thrones brute and superhero style

Jason Momoa is known as one of Hollywood’s top hunks thanks to his roles in the likes of Game of Thrones and Justice League.

His latest film, Slumberland, is now streaming on Netflix, and it tells the story of a young girl who teams up with an outlaw, played by Jason, in a dreamworld to see her dead dad again.

Jason, 43, rocks his trademark long hair in the movie, but over the years has completely changed up his look.

Bursting on to screens in 1999 in Baywatch: Hawaii, the actor looked completely different to how fans know him now.

Back in 1999, a fresh-faced Jason landed the role of Jason Ioane on Baywatch: Hawaii – a spin-off of the iconic show which saw David Hasselhoff reprise his role of Mitch Buchannon.

Back then, Jason was just 20 years old but already had a body many would be envious of.

He was almost unrecognisable compared to his current image, with his body free of any sort of hair, no beard and a shorter crop on his head.

A few years later when he returned to the role in Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, Jason looked a bit more like he does now as he had grown his hair out.

Spaced out transformation

Jason played Ronon Dex in Stargate Atlantis between 2005 and 2009, which is when he grew into the look that makes him more recognisable now.

His character had an edgy look and dreadlocks, as well as a mess of facial hair and Jason’s iconic sharply arched eyebrows.

Jason once compared Ronon to the Stargate Atlantis version of Chewbacca, from Star Wars, and the look of the character was certainly almost equal on the hairiness scale.

Fantasy thug

While Jason had enjoyed big roles already, it wasn’t until he landed the role of Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones that people really started recognising him.

The character was known for his brutal demeanour and was involved in some controversial storylines, such as the graphic rape scene involving Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen.

Drogo was a leader of the Dothraki people and he and Daenerys eventually did fall in love, however he died after getting an injury in battle.

The role of Drogo is what many people associate with Jason now, with his messy hair, dark makeup and, of course, muscular body, as he was always seen shirtless.

Jason’s next transformation for a role came when he landed Aquaman in the mid 2010s.

He first made a cameo as Aquaman, or Arthur Curry, in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and has since had a main role in Justice League and his solo movie Aquaman, in 2018.

Jason still had his long hair for the role, though the ends were highlighted blonde and were always styled loose and messy, with that added sea-salt texture.

The screen star’s body appeared much leaner for the role, with his muscles decorated with countless tattoos that covered most of his skin.

He will return to the role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is set for release in 2023.

Getting cheeky

Earlier in November, Jason surprised everyone when he stripped almost completely nude on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Host Jimmy shared a photo that Jason had posted on Instagram, showing him wearing what appeared to be a beige thong.

Jason explained it was a traditional malo from Hawaii, and he’s become a fan of wearing one as he has to for his new Apple TV+ series Chief of War.

Jimmy asked if Jason was wearing a malo during the interview, and without missing a beat Jason stood up and stripped off.

He was wearing just a brown item of the traditional clothing, and he turned round to flash his bum to the audience to prove it.
