Johnny Depp's courtroom behaviour 'could turn jurors off' claims legal expert

Johnny Depp’s ongoing defamation case against his ex-wife actress Amber Heard still continues but legal experts have suggested that his behaviour in the courtroom could affect his chances of winning.

They have said that the actor’s behaviour throughout the proceedings, such as doodling on paper and eating sweets, could “jeopardise” the case.

He has also been seen giggling during court, has made numerous remarks and has also refused to look at his ex-wife throughout the hearing.

Virginia Lawyer Lee Berlik has spoken on Johnny’s antics and has said that the jury could turn against the actor due to his behaviour.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Lee said: “In a normal case where nobody knows the parties and you have somebody suing his wife for [millions], you don’t want to see that person giggling and chuckling to himself and making smart arse comments on the witness stand.”

He then said that people would “want the jury to sympathise with their client” and for this to happen, they “have to be likeable”.

He added: “If you’re acting like this, it’s just fun and games that could turn a lot of people off.”

Lee ended by saying: “But I don’t know how Johnny Depp being Johnny Depp changes that. Normal people aren’t met by 100 screaming fans as they enter the courtroom. I think it will turn some people on the jury off, but will it turn all of them off?”

However, fellow lawyer Steven Krieger has implied that Amber may not be a favourite with the jury either.

He said that it “wouldn’t surprise him” if there was “at least one juror” who “found each of their reactions to be inappropriate” or “not credible” or “in some way negative”.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor is suing his former wife Amber Heard for $70 million in a defamation case over an op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018.

In the article, titled “I spoke up against sexual violence and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change”, Heard implied that she had been abused throughout their marriage.

Although Amber never named Johnny, he has claimed that the article meant he found landing roles an issue.
